It’s been just over a week since Hurricane Irma made her move through Florida.  Living in an RV full time, especially when home-base is in Florida, requires a special kind of diligence when it comes to weather.  So as the hurricane models were suggesting a possible Florida hit, I decided it was time to go. While Mom’s Away…LauraO

So if you read my last post about our trip last October to NJ and RI, you’ll see (to everyone’s amazement) that I left the gypsy chihuahua behind with her cousins – three yorkies – and in the care of my brother and his wife.  They have a large fenced yard, and the three Yorkies […](image)

The Atlantic Ocean is just beyond the trees behind the RV.  We arrived back in Florida late in the afternoon – and called ahead to Fort Clinch State Park on Amelia Island for a reservation.  When we arrived at the Ranger Station, the ranger told us there was one site left, and apologetically said “it’s […](image)

Fall Trip to NJ and RILauraO

Sat, 16 Sep 2017 12:59:48 +0000

So what exactly have we been up to in the non-blogging interim?  Hard to believe it was almost a year ago – but my sister and I took a trip last October to visit kids, grand kids, brothers and other family in New Jersey and Rhode Island.  For this trip, the gypsy chihuahua had her […](image)

Introducing The Gypsy ChihuahuaLauraOIMG_4115

I haven’t maintained Natural Notes in a long time – not seriously anyway.  Just a random post here and there.  It never felt right since I stopped banding – and I wasn’t sure anyone looked at blogs anymore. I’m still not sure of that, but I continue to find current blogs and people on social […](image)

Mystery Plant UpdateLauraOimage

Sat, 18 Mar 2017 12:56:09 +0000

So that marvelous flowering cactus from my last post so long ago (yet the very last one on my blog) is a night blooming cereus or Queen of the Night cactus.  Except that the flowers on these last through the day. I spotted several potted plants in front of an RV in the park so […](image)

What is This?LauraOimageimageimage

This awesome plant (orchid?) has bloomed about three times this summer.  It, and several like it, are growing only from the bark of the cabbage palm trees…I can’t find this plant anywhere else in this park.  The flowers bloom for about a day and rapidly close and fall off. The pics aren’t the best for […](image)

Waiting for FallLauraOimg_20150502_194831041_hdr

The first day of fall in a couple of days, and I’m fully expecting to wake up to a brisk, 60-degree morning!  Yeah well, one can fantasize.  More likely it will be a moment of high 70s, high humidity, and rapid increase to the mid 90s. I’m not complaining, mind you…when I moved out of […](image)

Spent three days at E.G.Simmons Park in Ruskin.  Another favorite to add to the growing list – but not surprising. This IS Florida, afterall. Simmons is a county park.  While there are RV sites available, I chose to visit first on a $2.00 day pass and liked it so much later opted to dry camp […](image)

Boondocking at Cracker BarrelLauraOIMG_20160215_071855978_HDR

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 20:52:12 +0000

Boondocking is an RV term that means dry camping…camping overnight with no water, sewer, or electric hookups.  Some folks actually prefer to camp this way, as it’s a no-brainer for saving money.  For most RVs that are self-contained, dry camping is seldom an inconvenience, and a great way to camp while traveling or when in-between […](image)
