Thank you. This is extremely valuable for beginning to wrap one's head around the tech.

This was a brilliant read...apart from anonymous! There is a usb interface that hopefully might integrate with android 'guitar jack 2 usb' by sonoma. That might work with Extreme softwares multi track daw? Would be good to record straight into my z1 compact using usb otg! Thanks again for the read...even if I am time travelling a bit!

I recently acquired an original Fat Head and have been quite pleased with vocal recordings on it so far. One note to add about the cloudlifter - I had a Triton Fethead, not a CL, but in addition to protecting ribbons from phantom power, both Cloudlifter and Fethead actually require phantom in order to function. Thanks for the great site!

Hah! That is hilarious. My poor wife has to usually deal with me rolling my eyes over many "pro studio" scenes in TV shows and movies. Where a cable is unplugged, the mic is backwards or not even on (Like a C414 with no lights on it), etc. Your observation is pretty unique though! I wouldn't have caught that one since I have no experience with the Kiwi, good eye! :)

Great review Juan. Has a very smooth top end, very subtle. Mid range is warm and not too harsh, but I also agree that it may not sound very good in, say, a port-a-booth. It would get real honky real quick.

Beautiful footage too, thanks man!

I just immediately thought of the Scottish song that goes "Ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low road...." The high literally goes around low lying stuff. At least, that's how I'm going to remember what the heck this means.

an' I'll be in Scotland a'fore ye!

Don't get a Presonus! You will regret it! Especially if you have no USB2 ports. They have very wonky drivers and don't even write their own. They have never updated them.

I think of it as a doorway, high pass lets the signal through, you don't call a doorway 'wall with a space in it', even tho the only effect it has on people is if they hit the wall,

huh, but you can call it what you want

I just saw this today. (Looking for other tech advice of yours. }:>) I use Wordpress to host my demo. It's a small cost every year, along with my domain (florsanroman.com), but worth it to me. I don't feel I can do much if people are impatient - if they ask me for the demo I either send the MP3 or the very long, ugly URL for the stream. If they wander over to my site, say from Twitter, they'll see the page and, if interested, click. A couple people have done that and let me know later. }:>

Juan Carlos - I find myself in a similar situation to your needs on the Scarlett 18i8 review. I'm trying to satisfy the needs of a band in both a home studio and occasionally in a live environment where I can capture with channel isolation for post show mixing.

"Excellent interface, notice I didn't say for the price. ($499) I'm wondering what you might have had in mind that would be better at $500 price level? With this unit now available for < 400 dollars, does this change your mind at all?

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have any on this unit vs. the Presonus 1818vsl, or any other interfaces that have similar specs / come to mind for interface -> PC recording.

BTW - What pc specs were you working on to capture the 8 channels? Any dropping of the session under extreme audio recording to your laptop?

Best regards & many thanks!

Dave

It's the other main part of the service.once a bank account is attached you can deposit funds with zero fees right now. Don't know if it will always stay that way, but I'm sure the bank deposit feature isn't going away any time soon.

Juan,

I've read this article about 3 times. I had to look up NFC, and tap-and-pay. (I hate acronyms). I understand both, I just didn't know that's what they were called. Thanks for writing this...good to know.

I, too have been waiting for Google Wallet to "grow up". In my mind, it STILL hasn't replaced PayPal. I don't need another MasterCard. I need a way to take the money sent to me by clients, and transfer it to my bank acccount.

I don't see that Google Wallet does this. Am I missing something?

Right now, the only thing registering on my Google Wallet account are the apps I buy for my Android Tablet.

Thanks again, and Happy New Year!

Dave Courvoisier

My suggestion for using SoundCloud (or any resource, really) as a host is to be SURE to enable the DOWNLOAD preferences so producers can actually pull down the files to their computer for their clients to listen to. I find lots of VO talent forget this step - and they may end up not being considered for a gig.

I host my main audio demos on my own site, using a player that works on all platforms (Mac, PC, Mobile, etc).
I also use YouTube for any video demos, and have copies of my vo demos on SoundCloud, VoiceBank, and a number of online profiles.
Most of those also have links back to my main site (JoeActor.com) if the listener wants more info.
The key is, however they find you, make sure they can contact you after they listen!
