I dont know which is your intend but how much you say that DD is a piece of crap and GA is a Goddness more I hate her.
I hope something really bad happen to her besides making things that nobody will see.
I despise all of you GA´s fans. You are pathetic and Thank God all the producers in US think that she is a has-been. LOL
I hope never seen her again in my life and I don´t know what you win with all this animosity against his co-star.
BAd bad luck for you.

I'm right there with ya, Heather. Dana Scully was a great, great character. I loved that not only was she not just a sidekick, but her education and opinion were taken seriously. Mulder and Scully learned from and were shaped by each other. Great post.

Wow this is a looooooooong thread. Bottom line, I don't think that Gillian Anderson is any more talented then David Duchovny. She plays mostly the same type of sullen women. I find her neither a great actor or attractive. Every time she opens her mouth she sticks her foot in it.

#72 and #78 I never saw what you saw in Duchovny's Mulder. Yes, he was a good character and he had his moments, but you act like he was Olivier and Brad Pitt rolled into one body. If he was that great, wouldn't he have countless awards and prestigious movie roles lined up the block? It's hard to take you seriously.

And #78, get over yourself. You condemn this blogger for her "passive aggressive resentment towards DD and Mulder," but didn't you do that yourself in your second paragraph. "But in the roles he does choose to play, he is every bit as talented as GA,if not more." You can't compliment DD without putting down GA either.

#72 "He showed more emotion with one glance, than Scully could show with an entire episode of weeping emotion."

Good Lord, you're embarrassing.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Some of you need to grow up. Commenting on Duchovny's limited range is NOT an insult. It's a legitimate view of his acting, even he realizes he has limits in range.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I think there is a confusion as to what limits in range DD has and that he himself has commented on. His limits in range have to do with what characters he is able to play, not the emotional ability it takes to play them. So no, he will never be able to take on different accents and become Henry the 8th, or Saddam Hussein, or the Prince of Wales. But in the roles he does choose to play, he is every bit as talented as GA,if not more. His understated style of portraying the everyday man is in actuality much more realistic than the overemotional emoting that is the style of many actors out there today. But I agree that commenting on David Duchovny's limited range in itself is not an insult, but only an opinion. What IS an insult, is this undercurrent of resentment that the blogger brings along with it. The little stabs and jabs that she makes throughout this whole article.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>But every time I see the show’s intrepid hero Fox Mulder, I wonder why I don’t identify with him that strongly. He’s eccentric, charismatic, and thanks to David Duchovny, Mulder’s cute, too. (Don’t get me started on the Lone Gunman trio—rowwrrr!)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>As in, yeah Mulder's cute enough, but even the lone gunmen are cuter. stab>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>(Of course, husband-o-mine and I began joking that after Mulder correctly solved a case for the 101st consecutive time, maybe Scully should start to buy into banshees and bogeymen.) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>101 consecutive times? Gee, resentful much that Mulder is always right? stab>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Another possibility of why I was lured to the Scully side is that she was played by the irresistible actor Gillian Anderson. In my opinion, she’s a far more accomplished thespian than Duchovny. Her ability to emote, and the sympathy she brought to Scully, lent her a magnetism that was mesmerizing to watch.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ouch. major stab. Insinutating that Duchovny and his character of Mulder had none of these things.and then there's this little frueudian slip.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>To me, the show broke ground. Scully wasn’t an accessory; she [...]

WOW! Brilliant # 72. Very well done.
You really understand The X-files.
I have tears in my eyes because I do love Mulder/DD and I don´t like to see DD/FM bashing.
But, by the numbers of replies I don´t think Heather will let the DD/FM bashing out of her posts. Unfortunately.
Sometimes, I think the favorite thing in Gillian Anderson fans world is to bash David and his projects. How sad is that?!?

2009-03-27T22:05:00.000-04:00

I don't understand how a person can be a fan of the xfiles and not be in love with BOTH characters. I don't understand how some fans can watch the xfiles and not identify with both Mulder and Scully. I don't understand how some fans could watch this show and not be emotionally moved by both of these actors performances. And I REALLY don't understand how someone could so identify with one lead character that they seem to become totally blinded in their admiration, to the point where this identification becomes the sole enjoyment of watching a show. Especially a show as great as the xfiles.

The author said that it was GA who was able to emote and bring sympathy to her character and a magnetism that was mesmerizing, but she saw no such qualites from DD? I pity her for that, and for other fans who feel the same as she. Because they have missed an entire half of what made this show so fantastic.

I can understand how, in reading this article, that the author doesn't see what a wonderful actor DD is in every role that he plays, because she never saw what most fans did in the first place. And that was David Duchovney's excellent portrayal of Mulder. Mulder is all the things that Scully was and more. He showed more emotion with one glance, than Scully could show with an entire episode of weeping emotion. And it was his many flaws that made him such a sympathetic character. He was one of the first heroes portrayed on tv who was not built of steel. He was human. Like you or me. As for magnetism? There are very few actors out there today who have the charisma of one David Duchovny. It is that same charisma that makes him still a factor in the Hollywood game after all this time.

As for Mulder? There is yet to be another character like him, although many have tried and failed. But if certain fans don't see it, then it is their own loss although they may never realize it in that way. After all, you can't miss what you never knew....

I've never see a fanbase so insecure. GA's fans are the most ridiculous kind of fan.
Why don't you just talk about her talents and projects?
Why this obsession in putting DD down or talking about his so called limited range?

So, Duchovny is a GA´s dependent? LOL

2009-03-27T03:09:00.000-04:00

TXF was a novelty on TV when it came out and attracted a lot of different kinds of people. The reason I became a fan was mainly two things: the high standard of the writing and the excelelnt acting. Not only from the two stars but from every member of the cast and all the wonderful guest actors. Who can forget Peter Boyle as Clyde Bruckman or Nick Chinlund as Donnie Pfaster or Brad Dourif as Luther Lee Boggs!
TXF also had a lot of really good directors, Rob Bowman and Kim Manners, just to mention two of them. But the standard of the writing really made this an incredible experience to watch. The writing became worse in the later seasons but there are gems in those seasons as well. And I know I'm in a minority when I say I really enjoyed Robert Patrick as John Doggett. Season 9 iwas pretty awful and I hated the last episode vehemently! But I loved John Doe and Release, very good acting from everyone in those episodes.
Thanks to poster 53 on that 2nd link, that was a true gem of an article!

Post 7
Why is it bashing by stating an opinon that Gillian Anderson is a better actor than David Duchovny? It's just an opinion after all. The writer of the blog is entitled to it, as you are to your opinion. But she did in no way attack David in this comment. You on other hand wield a pretty broad generalisation of the fans of Gillian Anderson which is a bit unfair in my opinion.

2009-03-26T23:24:00.000-04:00

I agree with #29. We have the same discussions year after year about who has better acting ability. It sucks that DD/GA fans war over this and shout as loud as they can about who has better acting ability.

I personally like both characters and both actors. Gillian is a decent actress and David is a decent actor and The X-Files wouldn't have been what it is today without either of these two people and their amazing chemistry year after year. As well as the show's strong supporting cast. I think that's something to think about.
