Looking for great places to have breakfast near or around the Morristown area. Any hidden gems?

Kosher turducken?

Mon, 13 Nov 2017 01:56:07 GMT

Aaron's kosher gourmet (which has the turduckens) has nothing to do with Aaron Rubashkin's the disgraced. I rely on their kashrut but you might want to check further into it.

Wayne back in the day

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 01:40:28 GMT

My family went to Sam’s in the early 70s — we kids loved the pizza and pitchers of birch beer. My dad loved the price — he called it “Cheap Sams”

Oh sorry, you're right. The seafood are frozen, but the experience is priceless. :)

NJ Diner Sausage - I give up!!

Tue, 07 Nov 2017 18:28:33 GMT

I picked up these Pork King brand hog casing (H/C) breakfast sausage today at Restaurant Depot in Port Chester NY. The 5# box contains 28 links so a little over 3oz. per link. The 5# box cost only $8.87. Pork King is a huge brand in the NYC Metro area used by a lot of diners. i just ate two of them and they are tasty but not as good as when they are deep fried Greek diner style.

Thanksgiving

Are there any restaurants near Six Flags New Jersey that will be opened on Thanksgiving day and serving traditional Thanksgiving dishes?

The Life and Times of the Buttered Roll

Fri, 03 Nov 2017 22:34:35 GMT

As much as I would love to cozy up to the buttered roll, here's my pet peeve each and every time I forget history and feel in the random mood of having one because it's there. I like my butter creamy, rich, natural, salted, AND CHILLED. I dislike a room temperature roll. Thus, I usually opt for cream cheese on a roll, preferably a whole slab of it, and again, CHILLED. The coolness of the spread is a good contrast to a hot cup of coffee.

Cheesecake Recipe - Weequahic Diner, NJ

Can you please share the original recipe if it is different from the one above?

Freehold, NJ Restaurants

Fri, 20 Oct 2017 19:35:15 GMT

There's a wonderful Indian restaurant in Freehold called Aarzu. I've seen people take out from there; highly recommend it if you like the cuisine! They have (and I rarely make statements like this) THE. BEST. lamb chops I've ever eaten. They're done in the tandoor and they're insanely flavorful and tender. Everything else I've had there (multiple dinners) has been terrific, but they're my all-stars. The Thali is also good; thing tapas but Indian food...then you get to try a bunch of dishes! https://aarzu.com

Kosher bakery for cake near Asbury Park NJ?

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 16:10:45 GMT

Since there's a huge Kosher population in the area, I'd start by asking at the shul or at the venue where you're holding it. I love Cravings in Allenhurst but they're not Certified K. You might also call Sarah's Tent, which is a K market in Deal--they may have some ideas for you as well.

Dinner in Nutley vicinity?

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 16:05:22 GMT

Without a doubt, if you want great food and a BYO, Stamna Greek Taverna. Insanely easy off of local roads or the Parkway. The best loukaniko (sausage), gigantes (fava beans), and octopus, imo! https://www.stamnataverna.com/bloomfield-menu.php Note that they have multiple locations, so be sure you send your friends to the Bloomfield one (even though it's on the Nutley and Montclair borders).

The old Jade Fountain, North Arlington

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 00:53:35 GMT

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to get to the recipes since they've been long retired or not around anymore. It was all done from memory, they didn't write it.

Why does NJ/NYC area have the best pizza?

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 20:34:09 GMT

Where do you live and what slop have you been eating? Because sure as shit, it hasn't been down in Monmouth County.

Where are the Good Eats in Western Morris County?

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 16:14:39 GMT

Howdy All. I recently moved from Bergen County to Western Morris County, and I’m looking for some good eats in the area. I know there might not be quite as many options here, but I’m hoping some of you might know some secret places. What I’m hoping to find... A good, cheap bakery - Any around? Verp’s and Belmont Bakery were my two go-to places in my old ‘hood. Great products at great prices. I went to a local bakery in Ledgewood a few days ago, and while the products were quality, they were also expensive. Bagels - Look... It’s a fact that Saddle River Road Hot Bagels in Fair Lawn makes the best bagels in the country. Check Encyclopedia Britannica. I know I’m not going to find something as good, but can I come close? Lox - We know Fairway has the best lox in the country, but it’s a bit far from here. I’ve found Wegmans lox to be good, but not in the same universe as Fairway. Any good local places? Maybe in Randolph or Denville? Kosher (Style) Deli - Do I have to drive all the way to Eppes Essen or is there something closer? Thai - I tried a local place’s pad thai and it was awful and expensive. Where can I get the real deal? Gyro - Chicken Kebab in Glen Rock was my staple. Any similar places around Western Morris? Related, any Juicy Platter/Halal Guys type restaurants around here? (Not holding my breath on this one...) Italian Markets - Seem to a few around here. Which are the best? The Vitamias of Morris? Gourmet Markets - Something like Maywood Market. I just saw the website for Burrinis Olde World Market in Randolph. They look good. I’ll check them out soon. Any other places? Kosher Supermarket - While not a regular shopping destination for me, sometimes I need a box of Goodman’s alphabet noodles or a can of matzo meal in a pinch. Szechuan - Seems to be a rarity in most of NJ. Do I have to make the 25 mile trip to Chengdu 23? Local Coffee Shop - Something like The Fine Grind? Thanks for any info.

Where can I find Oxtail?

Tue, 10 Oct 2017 01:40:35 GMT

In addition to all these great suggestions, I'd like to recommend the meat department at the Supremo's grocery stores. http://www.supremofoods.com/index.html There are so many great dishes you can make with them!

Yum Yum in Hoboken?

Party for 60 people! Venue in NJ or NYC?

Fri, 15 Sep 2017 13:14:03 GMT

Hakkasan is upscale and has a very reasonable (and excellent) prix fixe dim sum menu on weekends - maybe that will appeal more than DSGG :) Their private room is too small, but they may be able to figure out sectioning off space, especially at lunchtime.

Possible Cracked Granite Issue

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 19:33:31 GMT

Hello, This is my first post (long time lurker lol). This looks like a crack. If you can see it and feel it on the three sides I would guess it is definitely one. I went through the same thing with my guest bathroom vanity. They tried to convince me when they were installing it that it was a vein. I called the yard and insisted on speaking to the owner and explained the issue. He explained to me that it sounded like a break that happened at the yard and they repaired it with epoxy. I told him that I wanted one without a crack because I paid full price, I was not discounted for a crack. Mind you this was the second countertop. The first one they tried to install was completely different from what I had chosen (they were rude and dismissive until I pulled the sample out along with cell phone pictures). I had to pick a new marble because the one I had picked was no longer available although they took my order without telling me that at the time or calling to alert me of that fact, they were hoping I just didn't notice. He was accommodating the second time because I insinuated I would be doing my master bath and kitchen very soon so he wanted to make me happy. Needless to say I did not go back. If it is not to late I would ask for either a partial refund or an entirely new counter. This is something you paid a substantial amount of money for and will see every day. I feel you should be happy with it and not aggravated every time you see it. Good luck and however it turns out it looks like a lovely choice!
