Cudighi (aka Yooper Sausage)

Sat, 02 Dec 2017 19:59:41 GMT

I'm originally from Crystal Falls, MI and the marinara/pizza sauce that they have up there (especially Dina Mia's in Florence) is nothing like I've ever found anywhere else. I've been hunting for a recipe that even vaguelly compares for YEARS. Would you have any suggestions or recipes that you'd be willing to share?

Dalt's of Worthington, Ohio

Tue, 28 Nov 2017 15:34:38 GMT

Just reminiscing about a restaurant I worked at in my younger days. Dalt's, a TGIF affiliate, and a very fun place to be. waited tables and bartended for awhile there and was wondering what ever happened to the place.

Best candy & bakeries in NE Wisconsin (GB/Manitowoc/Fox Valley)

Thu, 02 Nov 2017 05:36:12 GMT

I'd not seen your post regarding Late's - I'd not heard of them! Bud's was the family favorite (we'd pick up burgers when going to visit my grandma), but I've not explored much else. I'm going to have to try Late's now!

Arbys Venison

Wed, 01 Nov 2017 10:36:57 GMT

Venison steak, not ground. It had been (over) tenderized, but was still a nice change from the usual offerings.

Champaign-Urbana dining in the 1970s

Mon, 23 Oct 2017 23:50:43 GMT

Does anyone remember a restaurant on prospect in Champaign it was where the enterprise car rental place is now, it used to be called Top Boy it had a big tree either in front of building or going through it? I remember this very fondly going with my grandma.

Cincinnati - Historic Restaurants

Thu, 12 Oct 2017 01:34:44 GMT

I checked coats at both the Maisonette and LaNormandie. On my birthday I would eat at Pigals. Mr. Whittle was a part owner after he left the Maisonette.

Quark Cheese

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 13:04:32 GMT

Pretty sure I've seen it at Holiday Market in RO, and Whole Foods. Might find it at Aldi but not consistently. I'd also check a Kroger with a Murray's Cheese department.

Szechuan Restaurants in South-East Michigan

Thanks - both of these are on my way home from DTW, so could prove to be tasty post-flight meals. I will try them out and report back.

Popular Food and Drinks in Indianapolis

Sat, 30 Sep 2017 22:18:39 GMT

I lived in Indianapolis and went to IU and don't recall ever eating any of that stuff, except pork tenderloin sandwiches. Fried pork tenderloin is the state food of Iowa so it's not that unique. Replicate Steak and Shake!

Wisconsin questions (and Dubuque)

Thu, 28 Sep 2017 11:22:21 GMT

I'm not sure what happened to my stomach at Heritage Tavern that I felt so ridiculously (disgustingly) full but it wasn't their fault. Maybe the foie gras was too rich and I often stop at two small plates anyway. It's a cool place, just didn't end well for me there haha. Madison had such cute food carts as you walked toward campus, but I'd just gone to Naf Naf and didn't do anything more than take a picture of them.

Breakfast in Davison Michigan or within 10 miles

Steady Eddy's Cafe in the Flint Farmers Market is great for breakfast. I also enjoy going to Flint Crepe Company.

Journal-Sentinel's Best 50 Restaurants of 2017

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 15:23:48 GMT

We haven't been to as many of these as I'd like, but we have been to Ristorante Bartolotta, Dream Dance Steak, Lagniappe Brasserie, The Union House and Lake Park Bistro. Of these, I do not understand how The Union House continues to make the list. We did not have a good experience there and in my mind it does not compare to the excellence of the other places. My favorite meal this year to date was brunch at Lake Park Bistro. With our window table overlooking Lake Michigan and the heavenly croissants, it was beyond memorable. My husband likes Mr. Wok and it's always nice to see it on this list. With its location in a strip mall, it's easy to overlook it or dismiss it altogether. I am looking forward to trying Tofte's Table now.

Doner Kebab withdrawls in Detroit

Wed, 06 Sep 2017 00:41:10 GMT

My review from first opened Enjoy see many photos I posted on Google and YELP. So I spent 2 years in Germany mid 70's having the real deal Turkish Doner Kebab, be craving ever since, this place authentic owner Omer so really talented a master chef everything made from scratch. The sliced meat of a döner kebab may be served on a plate with various accompaniments, stuffed into a pita or other type of bread as a sandwich, or wrapped in a thin flatbread such as lavash or yufka, known as a dürüm. Since the early 1970s, the sandwich or wrap form has become popular around the world as a fast food dish sold by kebab shops, and is often called simply "a kebab". The sandwich generally contains salad or vegetables, which may include tomato, lettuce, cabbage, onion with sumac, fresh or pickled cucumber, or chili, and various types of sauces. Such a exciting lunch exploring many new tastes . Just gotta love this place, everything so delicious Doner Kebab on 2 different breads outrageous to me back to my Germany days. On the plate a mixed of Turkish Hummus, Haydari, Pink Sultan, Cacik, Spinach Mushroom , Imam Bayildi and Cevizli Kabak see menu for ingredients. WOWED N OMG going back again soon, plenty of interior seating inside a meat market how cool. SHAKSHUKA TURKISH CUISINE 313-565-2777 opening at noon each day. 27310 Ford road next to AL Ameer. #shakshukaturkishcuisine #dearbornheights #donerkebab #turkishfood

Wisconsin Sends 17,000 Pounds of Cheese to Houston

Mon, 04 Sep 2017 03:03:34 GMT

"According to WLOX, about two dozen Wisconsin-based cheese companies and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board have teamed up to send a large truck full of cheese and butter to help survivors in Houston. Altogether they’ve assembled over 17,000 pounds of cheese, including string cheese, slices, blocks, and cheese curds. They’re also sending 300 pounds of butter." I wish better days for those in and around Houston. Our thoughts are with you. Meanwhile, grilled cheese for everyone!

Ann Arbor 36 hour trip report (aka the Zingerman's tour)

Fri, 01 Sep 2017 16:00:50 GMT

Dropped my daughter off for her senior year, where does the time go. On a food note, we stopped at the President's Open House and met him in the backyard, solid chocolate chip cookies were served. Upon early arrival from the airport we went directly to The Cream Top Shop. I had never been to the complex before and while I found the complex oddly sterile, once inside the venues it was all good. 1. A delicious melty Manchester and fig jam on true north with an added slice of La Quercia prosciutto, made for an excellent sandwich. My daughter's three cheese plate with fig jam, nuts and honey was also delicious. While the true north was a good choice my daughter's wheat crackers were non descript and left uneaten. With some Rose from a bottle grabbed from the refrigerator case we had a nice lunch in the sun. Before leaving though we went back in for some gelato. Fine, not that special. hazelnut, blueberry and maple pecan were nice but I don't know that I would go out of my way for it. 2. After a few hours of " building" furniture for her room, and building an appetite we headed over to the mothership on Detroit street. My daughter had her favorite, the Cowboy Reuben (Q sauced brisket) and I went with the Brooklyn Reuben (pastrami) and a giant latke. Now I believe that latkes like tostones need to go hot oil, paper towel, salt and into the mouth in under two minutes. I wanted a knish, my daughter wanted a latke. I asked the women if they are reheated she said no so we got one. By the time it arrived at our lovely picnic table it was barely room temperature. It was good but I should have gone knish. The sandwiches were awesome. Great tasting high quality ingredients on that delicious rye in the right ingredient to bread ratio. this one is an all-time favorite sandwich of mine.. 3. The next morning I returned to the complex to visit the Coffee Shop. At my visit the previous day I was intrigued by the giant grid. Coffee variety along the top, brew method on the side. I went with Ethiopian/Chemex and was delighted. First, I was surprised as I have never received coffee in a glass 16oz tumbler, with a cardboard heat shield. No milk or sugar. It was a really excellent glass of coffee. So good after pondering the issue of switching over to Chemex, this made the decision. The cinnamon bun was acceptable but not much more. 4. We also did brunch at Zola. I love their crab cake benedict, but not their potatoes. To big and undercooked. My daughter loved her huevos ranchero dish. Good coffee and juice. It has become our regular brunch spot in Ann Arbor. I will be back again Columbus Day, whether or not it is still a holiday, and will check out some of the more upscale spots in town. Go Blue

One great dinner in Petoskey/Harbor area

Thu, 31 Aug 2017 14:10:30 GMT

The New York in Harbor Springs is our favorite. If you don't mind eating early, they have 2 for 1 entrees every day. The best deal in the area IMO. Stafford's places are all solid - The Pier in Harbor or the Bay View Inn in Petoskey.
