We've moved!

2011-11-19T23:04:11.321-06:00

Come visit us at lifewithkrekes.blogspot.com

Across the USA

2011-10-31T23:01:36.450-05:00

Cousin Erin sent us this piece of fabric that has the United States printed on it with pictures that sum up each state. During our Circle Time last week I introduced the map to the kids. Of course, to make it appealing to the boys it had to be turned into something active. So we rolled balls across the fabric and wherever they landed I would say the state and we would talk about the things that were pictured there. It turned out to be a lot of fun!

future farmers :)

2011-10-29T11:59:53.888-05:00

On the last really beautiful day we experienced lately we took a quick morning visit to Suson Park. It's such a blessing that in 15 minutes we can be transported from our house in the city to a "country farm" in the great outdoors![...]

Birthday Girl!

2011-10-25T13:33:26.087-05:00

Isabella's request for her fifth birthday party was Hello Kitty! For the first time I was making party decorations with the birthday kid instead of just for them...and we had so much fun! We made a cupcake holder out of cardboard boxes wrapped in fabric, then printed cupcake toppers and an "Isabella" sign that we created on the computer. All our disposable plates, forks, etc were leftovers from other parties (I love putting someone else's extras to good use!)Jason brought us balloons from work and we used jars filled with pretty tissue paper to hold them down.We made puffs out of tissue paper to hang in the dining room:While in the middle of making it I said "Why am I doing this!?" more than once... but the pinata turned out great and was a hit at the party. Definitely worth the misery :)What a fun day it turned out to be![...]

hands!

2011-10-20T16:07:55.674-05:00

Elsie is learning that she can do something with those things at the ends of her arms and she is captivated by it! It is so precious to watch her batting at the toys hanging above her head then stopping to babble to them for awhile. She is such a sweet girl!

life lately...

2011-10-12T00:45:11.382-05:00

Isabella and Leo have had great fun inventing things to do with empty water bottles. Drumming out rhythms on things is definitely the favorite so far!Silas almost always has a toy animal or a tractor in his hand. The Schleich animals (we spotted them at Target!) are so wonderful and Silas just loves them. We own a few but hope to build our collection!Elsie continues to be the world's best baby. She is quiet and happy, eats great and sleeps like you wish a baby would... takes long naps and sleeps from 9pm - 4 am every night without waking up, then goes back to sleep after a feeding. The kids have been wanting "jungle" adventures, as they call them. So we had a quick hike during Jason's lunch hour. Ten minutes walking through the timber and they were satisfied :)I've been letting the kids spend as much of the day as possible in the backyard to take advantage of the last of this beautiful weather. Winter will be here before we know it and we are doing our best to soak up enough warmth to last! Of course, while they are alone in the outdoors they think up some pretty interesting games... Isabella taught the boys how to "fetch", so she now has the dogs she was asking for :)It turns out that Silas is a mini Leo... I guess what I should say is that I definitely have BOYS! They are keeping me on my toes all the time. I am so blessed that they both take 3 hour naps every day!Isn't God great? A smart and creative almost five year old, two enthusiastic boys, and a little princess who loves to smile. The Kreke house is full of good things![...]

Leo's notebook

2011-10-04T22:04:31.946-05:00

In Leo's "workbox" is a notebook with his name on it and his pencil box. I had no idea how much it would mean to him to have a notebook of his own! From time to time he will get his notebook and pencils and "write" on the pages. Usually he draws vertical lines that run from the bottom of the page all the way up to the top. After he works for awhile he puts it back into his box and continues on with his day :)

new pets

2011-10-04T22:06:03.741-05:00

Isabella and Leo have had several days of fun playing with the crickets they find in the backyard, and their mom is trying hard not to say EWW!
(At least they both finally understand the Don't Bring Crickets Into This House! rule...)

park adventure

2011-09-30T15:37:18.388-05:00

On one of our lunchtime trips to the park to visit Papa during work, the kids discovered the peeling bark of a birch tree. It was an exciting discovery and Isabella began collecting pieces right away.

Of course, big sisters cannot be outdone! :)

Elsie doesn't care where we are... as long as she feels snuggly.

Life Happening...

2011-09-26T13:49:14.894-05:00

I've been absent from the blog for awhile due to life happening. It seems having one more child has great cut down on my blogging time to begin with, and then we have random interruptions like emergency room visits when little boys cut their eyelid on a clothes hanger...Leo with a IV prep... which was then removed when they decided to postpone surgery until the next day.The nurses asked Leo if he'd been having to much fun jumping around with a hanger, but that is actually far from the truth of what happened. He was being a good helper to mommy, taking the dryer lint and going to throw it in the trash... which happened to be next to some clothes on hangers that were draped over a table. Poor little guy :(Leo in his "hospital clothes" getting ready to go into surgery to repair a severed tear duct and stitch the cut.He was so good in the hospital, especially since he was able to sit on his Papa's lap the entire time, except for the hour and 40 minutes that he doesn't remember at all. All the doctors and nurses loved Leo... I can understand why!Still on Papa's lap! :)We are so blessed to have experienced such great favor from our Great God who was so present the entire time! Jason had an opportunity to pray with the team of doctors just a moment before they wheeled the sleeping Leo into surgery. It is so good that God gives us the grace and courage to be able to glorify Him in all situations to all sorts of people! Leo seems pretty aware of his blessings as well. Each day before I put him down for a nap he says "Thank you God for making my eye all better!" I agree. [...]

transportation at the Science Center

2011-09-19T20:50:34.948-05:00

I realized today that I never posted the pictures from our trip to the Science Center. We made a morning visit after we wrapped up our Transportation study to get one more perspective on things that go vvroom! :)Checking out the cars speeding down the highway under our feetPlaying with the roadway table. (A big hit with everyone!)Leo wondering "why is the road broken?"......Ah ha! It is a drawbridge to let the boats pass underneath! (And if you're Leo it's also to give the boats a ride up and down!)We were ALL challenged by operating the bucket scoop at the end of the mechanical arm. If Papa had been there we know he would have showed us how it's done! :)And, of course, no Science Center trip is complete without making sure you're still brave enough to gaze upon the Tyrannosaurus Rex!! (Someday we might all have the courage to stand right in front of him...but for now it's balcony view for this family! :)In case you're wondering where the baby is... she spent the entire trip fast asleep in my baby carrier (her usual habit during our field trips!)[...]

love, leaves and rockets :)

2011-09-08T22:19:33.237-05:00

This week for school Bella and Leo colored "God Made Me Special... I Can Love!" badges to wear. A good reminder for all of us!Leo started a notebook where he can attach things with glue or draw whatever he pleases (right now he has been fascinated with drawing straight lines and trying to make them all line up neatly with one another)Isabella and Silas worked on putting the train set together in new ways... this way was not so successful! :)I am following Leo's lead with learning and our morning school time is going much better. I put interesting books around the classroom (he has a wonderful habit of picking up books and looking at them whenever he sees a new one!) and when he came to me with a question I've been turning it into an impromptu lesson. This day he became very curious about an article on leaves in an old Ranger Rick magazine. So we headed outside to find some leaves of our own and compare them to the ones in the magazine. To conclude our study of transportation we had an exciting Circle Time making "rockets" out of balloons that we blew up and let fly![...]

four!

2011-09-08T22:05:50.655-05:00

I can't imagine life without Elsie Noelle... it seems like there have always been four little ones here. Elsie fit right in like a missing puzzle piece.

We're back!

2011-09-02T08:33:52.053-05:00

Kreke kindergarten began this week. I spent the weekend preparing the classroom so that things would be new and fresh for Monday morning. The kids were very excited! This week has been a time of adjustment for us, since we are working on following a more refined schedule. The challenge for me has been juggling Silas during our morning school time. He wants to do everything the "big kids" do which means he wants what they have or he's mad! (He's not satisfied with his own pencil...he wants the one Bella has. And if she trades with him than he wants the first one back!) We're learning how to best have our school time :) I prepared these boxes for Isabella and Leo, which I put in worksheets for them to work on each morning. It is going good for Isabella but after the first day I realized Leo is still not in a worksheet place... even if it is just a coloring sheet. So I'm trying to restructure that time for him. The big hit with the boys was the introduction of an electric pencil sharpener... I should have guessed! LOL (Unfortunately it is pretty loud and drives Isabella crazy!) Each afternoon we have a project time and one day we made puppets with a kit the kids had been given awhile ago. They turned out great. This week we have studied "Transportation" (to follow up our great visit to the Museum of Transportation). Of course Papa does a much better job of reading the books about transportation than I do! [...]

Museum of Transportation

2011-08-24T09:21:18.465-05:00

A sweet woman from church gave us tickets to the Museum of Transportation. We went last week and had a great time! It is amazing how many things there are in St Louis that we have never even heard of. The kids loved riding the miniature train and attending a session at the Creation Station, an amazing room filled with crafts, pretend play and toys. A tram took us to the train station (Leo called it the blue taxi). On the way back, Isabella asked to ride in front with the driver. The Creation Station... just look at that incredible wall painting! I wish I could get that woman to come paint our classroom! Isabella LOVED this play kitchen area. Isn't that kitchen set amazing?! Leo had lots of fun on the pirate ship [...]

Insectarium

2011-08-16T07:04:44.559-05:00

Last week we visited a part of the zoo we've never explored before: the Insectarium. We were able to observe and learn about many common and less common bugs. And at the very we were able to walk through a mini version of the Butterfly House. It is amazing that as many times as we have been to the zoo we have never even noticed this before! There are new adventures everywhere we look. :)

animal actions

2011-08-13T20:56:52.862-05:00

I found these great animal action cards in the dollar section at Target. They have been great for those times when the kids are restless and I'm on the couch feeding Elsie. The day I took these pictures Bella and Leo were really having fun with the duck card. Silas loves ducks so he got into this activity!
