The End of My 30 Day Yoga with Adriene Journey #YWATRUE

The end is really the beginning. As I sit here today, still rocking my now-baggy leggings and my somewhat loose-fitting tank top, I am overcome with a lot of emotion. I will tell you about days 21-29 first and get into today's practice at the end.Day 21 Finesse: I sit taller, walk better and find myself choosing to move over sitting still. I dance around the house more. I take the dog on a walk. I am choosing activity over remaining sedentary. I haven't chosen that in a long time. I have lost over 20 pounds at this point and over 12 inches overall on my body. Today's practice was a welcomed nice and easy one today!Day 22 Release: Adriene always knows what to say because its always what I need to hear. Gosh I adore her!Day 23 Balance: Hard balancing poses. They are fun but very challenging. My whole body shakes. Guess I got to shake it to wake it, eh?Day 24 Be Kind: Lots of stretching and meditation. What a breath of fresh air. Day 25 Be Awake: Abs-oh my! Walk the plank, Arrrrggh!Day 26 Be Still: The lizard pose was very difficult but I did it!! I am left wondering if I will be able to walk tomorrow?!!Day 27 Be Free: My whole body is sore but I answered my question; yes I am able to walk today!Day 28 Be Fearless: I am still so sore. Lots of legs today. I feel goodDay 29 Be Brave: What a day of self-love. It sure is amazing. I am really proud of myself.Day 30 BE YOU: I only just finished my last day of this TRUE yoga journey so I knew I needed to sit down and get it all out. I was excited to don my clothes and hit the mat today. What I was expecting was not at all what I received. As she always does, Adriene welcomes you to the mat and sets your intention for the day's session. She is emotional, as am I as I start to cry a little. I cried because I DID IT! I decided to do something for me and I committed to it. Was it easy? No. Was it worth it? Hell yes! Then Adriene says she is going to turn off her mic and we were going to do our own thing. What? Wait a minute here! Well, Adriene always tells us to trust her so trust I did.I am not going to lie to you but today was the sweatiest and my least favorite day of all. My mind wandered everywhere {for the first time in these past 30 days} and I just didn't feel connected to myself. Did I have a great workout? Yes. Did I feel like a lost soul? YES! I discovered that I am not ready to be left to my own devices yet. I found myself looking up at the giant 65" TV inches from my face too often and I was not able to close my eyes. Why? Well because I didn't want to remain standing in Mountain pose with my eyes closed in anjali mudra while Adriene was in Cobra. I wanted to hear her crack a funny joke. I wanted her to remind me to listen to my breath. I wanted to hear her go through the poses so I could relax and know what to expect in mere seconds. I just didn't feel as though I was ready to be kicked out of the nest yet. I did my absolute best to stay true to myself {no pun intended but that was good!} and move in a way that was authentic to me while following my friend through the poses. I sweat like crazy and, at the end, for the first time in a month I very much missed my new best friend tell me that she loves me and send me off on the day with a "Namasté". Once we bowed and I whispered "thank you, Adriene with much love. Namasté" I looked up and the screen was black and I read her final words. I started sobbing uncontrollably. I cried and cried-a big ugly cry. I cried for my commitment to myself. I cried for believing I could and then doing it. I cried because now I can plank/extension easier that I could at day 18. I cried because I see myself differently now. I am now capable of far more than I was a month ago and for that I am forever grateful. I am so overwhelmingly grateful for the spirit that led me to Adriene and I am most thankful and grateful for her Charisma. She believed in me when perhaps I didn't and together we grew in many ways. I jump out of bed in the morning looking forward to seeing my friend and hearing her lead me on a journey back t[...]

Yoga with Adriene-My TRUE Yoga Journey Days 11-20

Yoga, what exactly does that term mean to you? To me its meaning has changed in the last month. As my yoga journey continues and my mind/body connection deepens; to me, yoga means life. As you likely remember me talking about how I found my yoga teacher through divine intervention {thats definitely what I am calling it now!} and how I decided to start. Then, a couple of days later I gave a recap of how things are going so I can check in and keep myself accountable. I did this by documenting my journey as a reminder of where I came from in my quest to find a better version of myself.Monday, January 22nd, 2018 DAY 11 Soften: I woke up sore but eager to get on the mat. I was happy and slightly relieved that today's practice was easy on me especially because I needed the extra stretching.Day 12 Center: WOW what an intense session! Hard core-CORE!Day 13 Strength and Harmony: Holy Cow I am so sore and we had another huge core workout!Day 14 Listen: So I really didn't want to practice today. I am so sore and tired. Then I decided that I'd like Adriene to tell me that she is glad that I showed up and that was good enough for me to take the mat. I also hoped for an easier sesh today. Well, I got it!! Mind and body connection. In my earlier blog post I mentioned "going to town" well Adriene said that a few times today and I giggled. Her humor is SO ME! We are like mental twinsies. I Day 15 Believe: Back and sides are sore. I stand taller now. I am ready for you today, Adriene!Day 16 Self Love: Great stretch and leg workout. WOW. I discovered that I love my laugh.Day 17 Charisma: Sore arms, back and obliques. Great practice today, LOVE IT!Day 18 Surrender: My arms and chest are sore. YWA totally kicked my butt today. Its really hard to do the plank to extension especially when you're a big girl. I struggled and took my first water break in the middle of the practice today after yelling "FUCK YOU, ADRIENE!" at my TV. I felt really bad saying it but WOWzies I don't like feeling incapable of doing something. I guess it taught me to just try again and keep going. Thats all I can ask for, right?Day 19 Thought: Great calm session. It was EXACTLY what I needed!Day 20 Awaken: Lots of leg work. I feel so tall and relaxed all the time.[...]

Yoga with Adriene A Spiritual Journey

Last week I wrote about my awakening and my promise to myself to get stronger and to strive to be the best version of myself that I could coming into the newness of the year. I am still feeling pretty damn awesome and today I finished Day 18-Surrender with Adriene on YouTube. Today was the last day of the TRUE Yoga journey with her but I started late and take Saturdays and Sundays off. I decided to do that to make the journey more realistic for myself. Weekends are family time and the boys are crazy and life is anything but Zen like it is during the week with me and Blu. Speaking of Blu, have you seen that handsome beast roaming around my IG feed and Facebook? Here is a pic of him getting up on my biznass while hanging with Adriene.

As I mentioned previously, I briefly journaled my thoughts on this YWA True Journey and I want to share them with you. I have had a couple people reach out to me on Facebook and Messenger and tell me that I inspired them to start as well. Well HOLY CATS that makes me smile. If I can show up everyday and do this for myself, I know you can, too!

Day 1-I feel great. I had an awesome sesh!
Day 2- WOW-I am sore but I am feeling taller!
Day 3- So Sore <3 and="" challenging="" p="" s="" stretch="" today="" warm="" was="">Day 4- I am excited to see Adriene today. You guessed it, I am sore! I can barely lift my arms and my back is sore, too!
Day 5- Snow Day for the kids. They stayed away. I am not as sore today and I am motivated!

Day 6- I am not sore. Today was the hardest workout yet.
Day 7- Not sore today either. Salud was full of movement.
Day 8- I am excited to start week 2. I feel powerful, relaxed and so zen!
Day 9- Today my mind was busy but Adriene brought me in. Sequenced. I sweat!
Day 10-Difficult-ish to breathe. Lots of movement. SORE tonight and sore for 2 days!

I hope that reading this makes you want to believe in yourself and give yourself a little something to look forward to everyday! You are worth it!

2018-How the Universe Led me to Yoga with Adriene

I am so not one to make fancy resolutions or shout outs about how "this New Year I am going to be the best." You won't hear me go on and on about a "new me" or a "fresh start". I think thats unrealistic. What you will hear me say is that my goal is to be better than I was yesterday.Better than I was yesterday, well you are probably wondering what that means. To me, that means that I am a real person and I have real struggles, problems, triumphs and issues. I am a busy Mom and I am a mindful wife. I try to keep my household running smoothly but sometimes laundry piles up. Sometimes the dishes pile up. Sometimes my kids hit each other. I can't control it all but I CAN control me! I have always loved being spontaneous and I love trying new things. I love surprises. So why not make 2018 a year of trying new things and trying to be better than I was yesterday? Sounds like a great personal mantra for me.So, exercise is such a gross and un-fun topic to discuss. I like being out there in nature and doing things but I hate feeling like I have to go to the gym or I have to go for a walk. I want to do something that I want to make me feel better about each new day. So along with trying new things, yoga came to mind. I have done yoga in the past but its been a long time. I have great flexibility and I love a good meditation session so it made sense to me. I am a big believer in the universe showing you signs and all the signs pointed to a woman whom I have never met or seen on video...Adriene.I remember vaguely a few months ago or maybe longer a good friend of mine posting something about Yoga on YouTube and how she was really enjoying it. Her post, come to find out just recently, was about Adriene! I didn't really pay much attention to it then. When 2018 was just around the corner and I was looking for more purpose in myself and the newness of the year I was thinking about ways to improve my daily outlook (so to speak). I thought about new dinners to cook, eating more fruits and veggies (we eat a lot of them and our diet is pretty healthy already but theres always room for improvement) and then one morning I woke up kinda stiff. I thought about how long it had been since I gave myself a good stretch and I concluded that maybe yoga or something of the like would be a good thing to bring into my life. It would accomplish things that I have been neglecting. It would restore my flexibility, it would bring me some time to work on meditation/myself and hell, maybe I would lose a few pounds. Then I thought about the crappy yoga DVDs that I own and how much they annoy me. I think that out of all the DVDs I have done in the past only one Pilates instructor, Ana Caban, has made me feel like she is a real person. So, I set out to find a way to do yoga at home and in a way that would not be boring, would not be dreadful and one that I could do everyday because I want to.Then, it happened. I saw someone talk about Yoga with Adriene (YWA) again in one of my spiritual groups that I am active in on Facebook. I thought, right then and there, that this was the sign that I needed. I should look this Adriene girl up. So I did. The kids were around when I got my laptop out and when I first started reading about YWA I was inspired. Who me? Yes, a workout that seemed far too good to be true. First of all, everyone talked about how much they thought Adriene to be a real down to Earth person and someone they could relate to. CHECK Second, its FREE and on Youtube which I can stream from my Apple TV CHECK and lastly, I can do it from home whenever I wanted and each day would be new and different HELL YES CHECK!! So now I have a little idea of what I am going to do, mind you this is right around Christmastime. Then I forget about it with the chaos of the holidays and the kids being home from school on break. Then one day, as I forcibly took the TV over from the kids so I could watch some Rachael Ray while folding laundry the Universe slapped me again. As I folded towel afte[...]

Beet Salad--A Love Story

Impressive & Addictive Beet Salad
{a foodgasm story}

Tonight I splurged and gave in to one of my absolute favorite foods....beets!  I know, I know what you are thinking, but seriously, beets are amazing.  I think about them all the time and I have perfected the ultimate beet salad recipe that would impress anyone.  Bear in mind that I don't write my recipes down so when I say "eye ball it" or "a pinch" I truly mean just that.

Roasting the beets {plain and simple}: I preheat the oven to 400º then get to cleaning my beets.  I trim the steams and leaves and place them into a ziploc bag for another day {and another blog post}.  Then I scrub the beets with a spaghetti scrubby.  I then carefully peel the beets and slice them into about 1/4" slices.  I toss the beet slices into a medium size bowl where I drizzle them with olive oil {until coated} and then I arrange them in a single layer on a cookie sheet.  Sprinkle your little gems with kosher salt then toss the sheet into the oven and roast until tender {approximately 15-20 minutes}.

{other INGREDIENTS}:While your beets are preparing to blow your mind gather up some soft goat cheese, balsamic vinegar, toasted walnuts and some arugula.  For an entire sheet tray covered in beets I use approximately 5T of olive oil and 2T of balsamic vinegar.  Whisk together your oil and vinegar until it emulsifies.  Toss in two handfuls {very scientific again, I know} of arugula and 1/4c chopped and toasted walnuts {toss to coat}.  Set aside and wait for the fireworks {you can put your goat cheese away if you want it to remain somewhat intact in your salad}.

Once your beets have finished roasting...remove them from the sheet tray and place on a wooden cutting board.  Cut into desired size and let them cool for a moment {sometimes I pop them onto a plate and stick them in the freezer for a couple of minutes}.  Once your beets have cooled, toss them into your salad until they are incorporated throughout.  Last, but certainly not least, add your goat cheese.  I like a decent amount in mine so I use about 4-5T for an entire batch.  Stirring a lot will turn your cheese into a smooth coating for the entire salad which, to me is perfectly alright.

Finally, dig right in.  What are you waiting for?  EAT IT and experience PURE.FOODGASM.DELIGHT!

I would love to know what you think!  How was my 'recipe'?  How do you like to eat beets?

Healthy Eating with Not Being Boring

Now that the holidays are around the corner, its easy to cut back now so maybe you can splurge on some of your favorites once Thanksgiving and Christmas get here! Here are some tips that I have found to keep food tasty while helping to cut the calories. 1. Use good fats- Olive oil is considered a good fat, butter is not.  When I would make omelets in the morning I would use Olive Oil to saute my vegetables instead of butter.  I thought for sure that I wouldn't like it but it was tasty.2. Replace fruit juice with Crystal Light- I don't know if I am the only person in the world who has to have juice with breakfast but I have found that I can use Crystal Light or Kool Aid made with Splenda and I am just as satisfied than I am when I drink orange juice.  This cuts my daily intake by 200-300 calories!3. Spices really are the spice of life- Oregano is delicious sauteed with vegetables and its a really yummy additive to many other meals.  Instead of using fats and meats to add flavor I suggest you try adding some spices.  I also love curry-a lot!4. Brown rice instead of white rice- Brown rice helps to stave off hunger longer so it leaves you feeling fuller, longer.  White rice has no nutritional value and should be avoided.  You can make a batch of brown rice on a Sunday and portion it out for the rest of the week.  I use it in stir frys and lettuce wraps and just about anything else where a carb or two is needed.5. Chocolate is evil and so is ice cream- HAHA!  I love ice cream so much and it is hard to get that feeling from anything else.  I have found that mini Drumsticks (150 calories) or Fudgesicles are perfect for that little something that we all crave.6. Vegetables are your friends- Vegetables help add bulk to your meals while keeping the calorie content low.  For instance, when I make my omelets in the morning, I sautee a bunch of onion, spinach and mushrooms and add some tomatoes at the end so they don't get too mushy.  I add oregano to the vegetables while they are cooking for extra zest.  I put this in my 3 egg white (one yolk) omelet and top with shredded parmesan cheese.  The parm is low in calorie and this breakfast is so satisfying and delicious.  You can also have a piece of whole grain bread or a whole grain english muffin to round out this meal.7. Chicken stock instead of water- When you are cooking your whole wheat pasta, brown rice or vegetables you can increase flavor ten-fold by cooking with Chicken or Vegetable Stock rather than water.  This intensifies the flavor without the added calories!8. Water is your friend- Drinking 8 glasses of water a day can help stave off hunger so you don't go crazy come dinner time.  A handful of almonds provides the same filling factor.  This is more of a tip than a transform your meals but it is very helpful nonetheless.9. Fruit- makes an excellent dessert or quick breakfast.  I love fruit smoothies using frozen fruit, non-fat yogurt and a splash or water or skim milk.  This makes a light and refreshing snack too.  Yogurt provides the calcium that all women need and the fruit is loaded with anti-oxidants.10. Craving something cheesy but don't know what to do? Reach for the Babybel cheese.  Laughing Cow and Babybel have 30-40 calories per serving and you can spread it on sandwiches, fruit, whole wheat crackers or vegetables.  The possibilities are endless. What are some ways you have found to make your favorite foods healthier?[...]

Oyster Mushrooms Shown to Help Disposable Diapers Decompose

No disposable diaper ever made has ever decomposed.  Not even close.... It takes roughly 500 years for one sposie to breakdown. Who has that kind of time to wait?  Mother Earth sure doesn't.  When you figure that each child makes roughly 1 ton of diaper trash annually, you are talking about a lot of waste (pun intended!)

What if I told you that scientists are close to figuring out how to make sposies breakdown in a matter of months rather than centuries?!  Would you be impressed?  I was astonished!  Thanks to a scientist named Alethia Vázquez-Morillas from the Autonomous Metropolitan University in Mexico City this is looking more like a reality.  The use of oyster mushrooms is making impossible feat possible.  The oyster mushroom feeds off of decaying trees by breaking down cellulose (the main component of sposies).  The break down of cellulose, by oyster mushrooms, results in a 90% breakdown of the disposable diaper in just 2 months and the remaining 10% is broken down in the next 2 months.

So lets pretend that you have a compost pile (and you use sposies).  Maybe you should trow (like throw without the H) some oyster mushrooms in there with your diapers and see what happens!!

We are officially at Half Time in Dexter's Life

I will never forget the article I read a couple years back about when a child reaches 9 years of age, half-way to 18, they are officially at the "Halftime" in their lives. This is half-way to being out of the house after high school. How we got here in such a short amount of time, I am unsure! What I do know is that every moment is appreciated and before me is a young boy growing bigger, braver and more amazing everyday.

At 9 1/2, Dexter is truly one-of-a-kind. He is thoughtful, caring and he is a friend to all. He is funny, goofy, spontaneous, and articulate. He is everything I could have ever asked for in a child. Being with Dexter is like being with someone you have known for a million years. He just has a way about him!

It seems like yesterday that I started this blog writing about cloth diapering baby Dexter  and now I am teaching him how to cook complex dishes, how to start laundry and how to care for what he calls his "luxurious locks". He is wanting to grow his hair out for a "man bun"! He is quite the dude.

Dexter loves to make people happy. He is a true lover. He enjoys snuggling and watching movies. He is a giver. He is always giving and sharing with his brother just so that Oliver doesn't go without. Case in point, Dexter has been asking for a wallet for a while now. While back to school shopping, he wanted to go to Hot Topic. He found a Pokémon pokeball wallet that excited him beyond belief. I was just excited that it was on sale for ten bucks! He then found the Masterball keychain (see pic above) that he was jazzed to put on his backpack. Long story short, Oliver was mad because he wanted a wallet. He threw a fit about it until Dexter gave him the wallet he just found and fell in love with. I insisted that I would buy Oliver another one but he insisted. It wasn't until Daddy took them out for a Daddy-date that he bought Oliver his own. I mean, how amazing is his heart?

I could go on and on about how fabulous my child is but I will save that for another day. I just hope that he knows just how much I love him because he is the best thing that ever happened to me. He made me a Mom!!

The Grocery Game-Practicing Math at Home with Your Kids

The Grocery Store Parents, how many of you take your elementary-aged children to the grocery store with you? It can get hectic, and little voices will chime in at every turn asking you to buy this and that. Other times, your children may be upset that they've been "dragged" with you to the store. What if you worked with your kids to give them certain levels of independence on your next grocery shopping trip? Children like to be helpful and independent. So here's an activity that can teach your children about money while also helping them to become more engaged in math practice and real shopping experiences. Once they are more familiar with money and the idea of a budget, you can give them opportunities to purchase items in a real store, weighing their options of which products and brands to buy. It is always a lot more fun to go shopping when you are able to participate in the process. Here's to making grocery shopping, with the whole family, more fun! What You Need: Various grocery items, such as pasta, crackers, sugar (anything on hand)Grocery listPaper for price tagsMarkerMoneyWhat To Do: Create a grocery store with real items. Whatever is available at home can be used to stock the store. Put price tags on each itemProvide your child with a grocery list. For example: three bags of sugar, two cartons of eggs, one gallon of milk.Give him a specific amount of money to spend and discuss what a budget is and why it's important. As he goes through the grocery list, he will need to calculate if he has enough money to spend.Give him time to do the calculations. If he realizes he does not have enough money, then he will need to divide the quantity of the items. For example instead of purchasing two cartons of eggs, then he would only purchase one carton, or instead of purchasing one gallon of milk, he would need to get half a gallon, since it would cost less than a gallon.Once he seems ready, a fun activity to apply those math skills would be to help him make a grocery list and go to the store so he can purchase real items. What are some ways that you practice math at home with your kids?[...]

He was the most handsome and unique puppy I had ever laid eyes on. It was love at first sight. Today, Blu is 10 months old and he is as perfect now as he was at 9 weeks old when we got him! He has become the most perfect addition to our family! We are all very smitten. I want the whole world to get to know Blu because he is truly very remarkable! He has his own IG and you can follow him as @BluAmericanBulldog  Dogs are meant to live big, joyous lives—full of little moments that count every single day. From chasing after birds around the backyard, to jumping on your lap when you come home from a long day at work, in a dog's life, it's the small moments that count. Just as they bring happiness into our lives, we as dog parents should make it a priority to help our four-legged friends live big, vibrant lives—and I make daily choices to support that philosophy. That's why I chose to try Nature's Recipe, which is made from nature's best ingredients, to help my dog live a natural, healthy life.  In addition to providing my dog with the best nutrition possible, I like to sprinkle special activities throughout the week to help him enjoy all the wonderful beauty that spring has to offer. Here are a few activities you and your dog can do to make every moment count this spring:1. CAPTURE THE MOMENTThe flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and the weather is gorgeous. Take advantage by taking your dog out on a stroll snapping a photo of him enjoying nature. I personally choose a trail near water so my dog can play at the edge (or dive in if he's feeling brave enough)—it makes for great photos!2. PLAY YOUR DOG'S FAVORITE GAMENow that the sun is out, my dog and I take a weekly trip to our local dog park. This gives my dog the opportunity to interact with his friends and make new ones. One particular activity we both enjoy playing is catch. We usually take an old tennis ball, but switching out an old favorite for a new toy is always a great way to treat your pup.3. PLAN A CAMPING TRIP A quick weekend trip in the great outdoors truly makes my dog happy. It lets him visit a new place and explore the scents that fill the air during this time of year. It also lets me enjoy some time out of the house and admire all the beauty spring has to offer. Whether it's a quick day trip, or a longer one that lasts several days, your dog will be thrilled to be outside exploring nature. Since I decided to give Nature's Recipe a try, it has become Blu's favorite way of starting the day and refueling after an adventure. Nature's Recipe is nutritious, affordable, and easy to find at Walmart, Kroger, and Meijer. Happy 9th Birthday, Dexter

Where does the time go? Seriously!!! It feels like yesterday I was taking pictures of him with some walking toys and making my first post here and the next thing you know, I am the mother of a NINE YEAR OLD!!! In fact, just a week before his birthday, he got glasses for the first time. Talk about a tear jerker!Dear Dexter,      How is it that our journey together is already celebrating 9 years of love today? From the very first moment I met you, I was forever-changed. 4 Tips to Keeping Your Home Safe During Holiday Travel

Traveling for the holidays is something my family always looks forward to. There's no better way to close out the year than by hitting the road, singing holiday songs at the top of our lungs, spending time with family and friends, and eating delicious food. But if you're anything like me, whenever you travel, a little voice in the back of your mind says, "Is my home safe? What if a fire breaks out? Could a pipe burst? Could a thief break in while I'm away?" So even though I love holiday travel, I'm never able to completely relax. So I breathed a sigh of relief when I was contacted by Ooma—a leading internet home communications hub—with the opportunity to deliver 4 tips for keeping your home safe and secure when you're on the road this holiday. Before you lock your doors and hop in the car, make sure you follow these steps to ensure your home is safe. TIP #1: DON'T TURN YOUR THERMOSTAT OFFBefore leaving for an extended trip, it's important to lock in a safe temperature in your central heating system. If you live somewhere with cold winters, don't turn your thermostat off! To prevent your pipes from freezing, set the temperature lower than usual—ideally between 40 and 55 Fahrenheit. Live in a warmer climate? Leave the thermostat at about 69 Fahrenheit. Alternatively, you can completely avoid worry by controlling your thermostat remotely. Ooma detects when your thermostat is on "Away" mode and will automatically forward any home calls to your mobile device. TIP #2: SHUT OFF THE GAS AND UNPLUG ALL APPLIANCESAlways turn off gas-powered devices such as stoves, ovens, and fireplaces, and unplug all appliances. This can prevent any accidental fires and potentially hazardous carbon monoxide leaks into your home, as well as save energy. This is especially important if you have pets at home who can't defend themselves against unforeseen hazards. For an added layer of protection, be in the know—Ooma can warn you via text and direct you to call 911 when your Nest Protect smoke/carbon monoxide detector has been triggered. TIP #3: DON'T KEEP YOUR TRAVEL A SECRETWhen leaving home for several days, tell someone you trust where you'll be in case of emergency, such as a fire, burglary, or carbon monoxide leak. Friends staying in town or a thoughtful neighbor could be options. They can keep an eye out for suspicious activity and notify you of any out-of-the-ordinary occurrences. Ooma allows you to be notified immediately when 911 is dialed and you can call them or call police to investigate. TIP #4: LEVERAGE TECHNOLOGY TO MONITOR YOUR HOMEThanks to technology, our homes are getting smarter and smarter. Did you know there are countless apps that can connect to systems in our homes—from central temperature to security systems, light bulbs to the Amazon Echo? The Ooma Telo seamlessly interacts with your favorite smart home products and services to make your home safer and more convenient than ever before. Whether it be increased levels of carbon monoxide or a home break-in, Ooma can be the first to alert you of any danger.   You can learn more about Ooma's home monitoring system and buy an Ooma Telo at  Has an emergency ever happened at your home while you were away? Tell me about it in the comments below! [...]

Do You Like to Be Surprised or Can You Not Wait? Surprise with ANKER

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of the Anker and The Women Bloggers. While I was compensated for this post, all thoughts and opinions are my own. #AnkerLoveThere are two distinct people in this world; those that love to be surprised and those who can't wait to save their lives. I happen to fall into the love surprises category and my husband just loves to open anything right away. This poses a HUGE problem come Christmas or any other gift giving holiday. If Jason knows that a gift was shipped to the house for him and he has to wait for it, he badgers me relentlessly until I give in and give it to him. That is most annoying for me because I love knowing there is something for me to look forward to. Like, come Christmas when we visit his parent's house and I have a pile of presents to open, I would rather open one-at-a-time all day so I can savor them. Weirdo, I know. Are you like me or more like Jason?Jason is super into technology and dare I say that he knows everything about anything when it comes to my iPhone, iPad, MacBook, iMac etc. He knows how important it is to both of us to be connected and how nearly impossible it is to do that when your battery is low. Nothing gives me more anxiety than looking at my phone and seeing it has any less than 50% battery. Well, I hate it less than 75% really but that just sounds neurotic! For quite some time now I have trusted a company called ANKER with charging my devices at home. They make the best quality wall chargers that allow my whole family to charge their devices at the same time. Up until recently, ANKER products were only available through Amazon, which is awesome, but not for someone like me who has to hide last-minute gifts from nosey husbands! You can now buy your favorite ANKER products at Walmart! WOOT! Who doesn't have a Walmart close by?It has taken me years to learn not to buy anything for him prior to Christmas because he will "accidentally" find it. Lucky for me, Walmart is close and has everything that I need to make his holiday special. If you are looking for the perfect gift for your husband, college-aged child or anyone else who, like me, is terrified of losing power to their phone, let ANKER give you peace of mind with their incredibly reliable PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger powered with Quick Charge™ technology! With a price of $23.99 its an incredible buy for anyone on your list. After all, you can't put a price on peace of mind, can you?Save Time with ANKERWho is the hard-to-shop-for person on your list? I guarantee that if you head to Walmart, ANKER will take care of the rest.[...]

Voice of Play--Get Outside Every Day for #YearRoundPlay

The post is brought to you by Activate by Bloglovin and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. Powered By: All year long, as a family, we strive to play outside for a minimum of an hour a day. Sometimes that is difficult in the winter when temperatures are known to dip below zero here in Michigan but even then we get out when the weather permits. The boys love being at the beach, camping, fishing and anything that involves getting dirty! The especially love climbing our century-old maple trees, running through the orchards and riding their bikes up the dirt paths around our house. Not only is outdoor play important for the boys' physical health, it also helps them mentally focus, stay aware and sleep better. I can totally tell when they were forced to have indoor recess or when they haven't gotten any exercise that day. They just seem cranky!I especially love when Daddy can take some time off from work (or on the weekends) and join us for outings where the boys can learn how to shoot BB guns and archery. Of course, I could take them alone for that but lets face it, I am not a very good shot! Being a Mom of boys has its challenges but I wouldn't trade those smelly, dirty, crazy kids for anything. There is nothing quite like gardening and turning over to see a mound of worms carefully being dug up by the kids for "fishing" or "composting" projects that they like to take on. Oliver loves being outside so much in fact that for his 4th birthday we bought him a Coleman folding shovel so he could get his dig on at a moment's notice. What are some of your kids' favorite things to do outside and away from electronics? This post is sponsored by the Voice of Play. The Voice of Play is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA, formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds.  Through the Voice of Play website and social media properties, IPEMA highlights the scientifically proven physical, social, emotional and cognitive benefits of play. SURVIVE WINTER LIKE AN ARCTIC BOSS  Winter is coming... or should I say it's already here?  But there's really no reason to be afraid of the shorter days and colder nights. Fresh snowfall, wind-chilled cheeks, and abundant layers of clothing are a natural part of winter. With at least six months of winter per year, the countries of the North embrace the cold months with enthusiasm—and they could teach us a thing or two about surviving winter.  I recently partnered with Kungs, a Finnish producer of premium snow brushes and ice scrapers that are tested in the harshest Arctic conditions. Together we are helping spread the word on the exciting launch of these new products in the U.S. just in time for winter. Made in a country with some of the severest winters on the planet, Kungs products combine Scandinavian design and ergonomics with the innovation, durability, and multi-functionality to handle anything winter throws at drivers. Some quick facts about what separates Kungs snow brushes and ice scrapers from the alternatives:Kungs is the market leader in Northern Europe for winter car care accessories.Kungs products are designed, tested, and manufactured in extreme Finnish weather conditions—including testing in sub-zero temperatures and UV radiation! All Kungs products come with a three-year warranty (which is unheard of in this category).Kungs is environmentally friendly—using up to 17 different recycling methods for all waste generated during production. (This is so surprise, since Finland has been recognized as the greenest country in the world.) Kungs products are PVC-free and made of 100% polycarbonate.  Year after year, Kungs has won awards in third-party tests across Europe (including most recently in Germany). Many of us complain about winter and wish it would end sooner. But as the folks in Northern Europe know better than any of us, winter is a special season that can be thoroughly enjoyed—if you make the appropriate preparations. With my Kungs snow brushes and ice scrapers—and multiple layers of clothing—I'm ready for an adventurous winter on the road! What does Super Savvy Mommy think?I was really impressed with my Kungs brushes and scrapers. Living in Michigan, we tend to get a lot of snow. There is nothing that I hate more than to spend money on snow brushes over and over because they broke or fell apart. I can tell that Kungs were meant to last! I have tried telescopic brushes before and they were very poorly made--this Kungs brush is not only meant to last but it has my husband super jealous and that speaks volumes. I mean, who gets jealous over a snow brush?!We give these Kungs brushes and scrapers 5 out of 5 stars!*I received products in exchange for this post. No other compensation was offered. All opinions are mine and I was not obligated to write a positive review*[...]

Woof Yeah I'm Tailgating with Pup-Peroni!

Woof Yeah – Pup-Peroni is helping me share the deliciousness of tailgate season with my pooch! The air is crisp, the pigskin is getting tossed around, and the grill’s getting fired up! For me, there’s no better feeling than grilling tender, juicy steaks for my buds during a football game. The succulent smell’s got my belly grumbling and my puppy, Blu's tail wagging! Seeing as how he’s one of my best buds, I wanted to find a way to celebrate the deliciousness of meaty grilled filet mignon and bacon with my favorite four-legged friend.  So we picked up Pup-Peroni's new Filet Mignon & Bacon Flavors treats and brought them to the tailgate party for our pooch. And I’m glad we did – you should have seen his reaction. He could barely contain himself as he wagged, jumped and yelped all at the same time. These treats had us high-fiving in no time!  Pup-Peroni treats are no joke - they're made with delicious real angus steak and bacon flavors that our dog absolutely loves. Plus the soft, chewy texture gets his tail wagging! I think I enjoy giving him these Filet Mignon & Bacon Flavors treats as much as he loves eating them! There’s nothing like sharing my favorite part of football season with my best friend. Woof Yeah!No matter how you celebrate your "tail"-gate this season, you and your pooch will be saying ‘woof yeah’ to the tasty flavor of Pup-Peroni Filet Mignon & Bacon treats! Check out this fun ‘Woof Yeah’ video to see what your pup is really craving.  allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="" width="560">Have you had the chance to share the satisfying moment of undeniable deliciousness with your pooch?
