Grannies Refurbished Furniture and More

Bringing old furniture back to life

Updated: 2018-02-22T12:57:12.716-08:00

Good Morning, Happy August!!! I have been very busy with Gardening and life.  My dream has always been to have my own Plant Nursery and I am creating just that, One step at a time.

I have also done some painting and have to finish a chair for a friends benefit who's son was hit head on by a drunk driver.

Painting is my forte

I have been expanding my knowledge of painting and different arts. I have just auctioned off a painting for 100.00 for Autism Awareness and have been asked to design another piece of art for a fundraiser for animals. I will be also auctioning off another painting this weekend for Kids and disabilities. This is one of my chairs designed for a friend to put his Army hats on.

Hi Friends and Family,

Time certainly has passed since I have been on here last. I am very bad about updating but will try to spend more time on this page. Life has become more calmed down but certainly never a dull moment.
Grannie has been painting more and more and sharing the talent of my Refurbished furniture. I seem to like the Coastal look. Hey, I live near the water, why not???

As for Gardening, I love my little corner of the world. I have been planting more and more Canna Lillies and love the bulb families. Any type of Bulb, that I can split and make more plants I am all for.

I have about 20 Tomato plants and love saving them from the worms and others pests. That must be my medical field training LOL

I have also been visiting a lot of other pages and learning from many of you.  What are your best tips for the summer?

Happy Memorial Day to all of you, Keep Pushing on!!

Accomplished quite a few things today. The herbs are growing like crazy and just purchased Tarragon and Sweet Banana Peppers to add to the aquaponics. My goal is to be able to grow Herbs for medicinal purposes, food and just to make different tonics and rubs.   I also hope to open a herb stand or do ebay with the Herbs.  Daddy had a green thumb and I think he passed it off on me..... Our basil.. Have Lemon Basil and Purple Basil growing also.

Learning how to live the Simple Life

There was once a time that I wanted it all, the Big Fancy Car and the Beautiful House with a pool. When I hit 50, something changed inside me. I realized the car nor the house was important. What is important how I am going to live the rest of my life Stress and Drama Free.

For me this means, outside in the garden growing the Vegetables and Aquaponics. I really hate going to the grocery store with the Outrageous prices and you never know what kind of unhealthy stuff will be in your food products.  I was one of those that ran to the store for everything and now I run outside my back door straight to the gardens.

Another hobby that I have taken up lately is Photography. I may not be as well as I want to be yet but I know I have the eye for special settings. Photography holds special memories for years to come. What will your family say when they try to remember special occasions? Wouldn't it be better to be able to share some family photos??

I have to be honest, my mom was always taking pictures. She had albums and albums of many happy times and places. She passed away, big family fight and all those pictures disappeared.  I now have just memories. Which makes me real sad, but at least I have the memories.

So as you get older, what really matters to you? Is it the big fancy cars with big bills or is living peacefully and stress free and drama free??

It's your choice.

Relaxing and painting

I have been doing alot of relaxation and finding what fits for me. I enjoy working for myself and gardening and painting furniture.

This is what I painted last... this was so much fun... just  paint, a little imagination and this is what I came up with.

I have come across alot of talented painters and my dream is to start my own business. One step at a time...
Time to get the plants growing also...
Share my blog with others and I would be happy to share yours with my followers....
Stop in and say Hi... I love followers(image)

Where did time go?

Looking back on all these years, I wonder where did time go? What happened to my dreams in the past? Why did I let a man control me for all those years? All I can say is I don't really know why.. Codependent maybe, was afraid of being alone.  But thats all in the past and now I am free of those chains that bound me for so long. Celebrating my anniversary tomorrow with the man that helped set me free. Now I am concentrating on keeping myself healthy and making great strides with my painting furniture business. Life is good!!! Thank you for stopping by here as I learn more on how to blog I will be adding more and even thinking of writing a book that can help other women release the chains of a relationship gone wrong.  Feel free to leave comments :) (image)

Time to get this Blogging back in business...  I have been so busy the past few months and have neglected this blog.. Sorry guys, life has habit of taking over and taking me in other directions.

Where do I start? Just turned 50 years old... Where did time go? I went through some mental challenges like menopause and all that other stuff. I decided to start living the simple life. No stress, hanging clothes on the line and just enjoying the Country life.

I have also been designing my Seaside collection... which means painting furniture again. I seem to have friends that are really interested in what I do, which makes me very very happy.  Have to thank JunkYard Gypsies for giving me the courage to go after my dream, which is repainting furniture and bringing old back to new. I design Seaside furniture and Kids furniture. Don't think you will see anything like this in the store. They all have personal touches.. So let me take you on a tour of what I do. This is my recent project. Working on another piece that I will have online tomorrow.. Thanks for looking :)

Life is an adventure... Every time you turn around there is a new door to be opened and a new friend to be discovered. Life is about Art and exploring every nook and cranny that you come across... Do you have a special talent that you love to work at? I love the arts, I love exploring old buildings, I love painting and photography.

I love to take pictures of the Sky and I love to paint old Chairs.... Every Chair has a history, whether big butts or little butts, who rocked their grandchildren while sitting in the chair??

I love new adventures... I love music!! When the opportunity came across to go see Rion Paige in concert, I jumped on it.. Your asking, "Who is Rion Paige" Ever watch Xfactor?  Rion is a 13 year old POWERHOUSE!!!!

She is on this Season's Xfactor and with an amazing talent, be sure to watch x factor and Vote for Rion paige

Grannies Refurbished furniture

I have always loved to paint and I have been doing quite more than usual lately. Refurbishing furniture has turned into more than a hobby. Call me crazy, but I think each piece of furniture has a story behind it and if it's just a little piece, how can I make it more beautiful? How can I bring joy to another person with a piece of furniture.

Look around today and all the beautiful items are high priced. With economy the way it is, someone needed to step in and make it more affordable. That's where I am hoping to go, it was always my dream to open up a little corner store where I can have my little painted knick knacks or refurbished items...  One day that dream will come true. I have met so many wonderful people that are doing the same thing as I am and I am learning so much from them. Kudos to The Purple Painted Lady for taking my call out of no where and being able to help me. I really appreciated that.

Thanks to all the new followers that I have on Grannies Refurbished Furniture on my Facebook page and thanks to my wonderful husband who said to me yesterday, "Keep this up we are going to have to get a truck." Yes Dear, I do think you are right. :)

I want to give a big high five for Visalus for giving me the opportunity to be able to work home keeping me healthy and happy and to further my other dream, Refurbishing Furniture.  Thank you all for reading my blog... (image)

In the arms of Angels

Good morning, Hug your family a little closer today.... Reach out to that special someone that you haven't talked to in a while.... Lets bring it back to the good ole days where one went out and talked to their friends and neighbors and lets bring Religion back into our lives.

First of all, we give our deepest sympathy and regrets to Newtown, CT and its residents.  I wish we could erase that day and pretend that it never happened. But we can't, we can go on and give out hugs and prayers, we can go on and try and make it better but we can't. We can only learn from this.

But what do we learn exactly?  What lesson do we take in from this?  We learn never to take Life for granted. Anything can happen at any moment. Just make sure that your loved ones know how much they mean to you.  I hear alot of issues about Gun Control and how we should ban Guns, but is that the answer? I don't think it is. I think the answer is more help for the Mentally Challenged and Mentally unstable. Stop tossing them aside and get them the help that they need.

Maybe, we do need a little more Gun Control but not to the extreme where they want to ban all guns. Some how the criminals will get their hands on Guns and then what protection will we have?  Learn to respect the Gun and what it stands for. If your going to own a Gun, be a responsible gun owner. That is the key, Responsibility.

Again, hugs and prayers to Newtown, CT and its residents. One day your town will be full of laughter and joy but until then, Never say Goodbye.. Just say See you later.... Your loved ones are right beside you full of Joy in the arms of Angels. Love you all!! (image)

The Angel of Staten Island

Happy Tuesday...As always, I like to introduce you to people who have made a strong impact on me and others.Patricia Madsen came into my life many years ago and I am proud to call her a good friend. She has been an Angel for Staten Island and its residents, I will let her tell you her story....Written from Patricia Madsen herself. Two yrs ago I did a relief fund for Alabama when the tornado's hit there. We sent over 4 18 wheeler tractor trailers full of supplies and goods to them!! Two yrs ago my daughters were 2 and 3.When Hurricane Sandy hit, my daughter Andrea (who is now 5) was sitting on the couch with us watching the news. She looked over at me and said "Mommy what are we going to do?" I looked at her in a state of shock... and said "Mommy is working on something, don't worry baby girl!" Although I had nothing planned I could not disappoint my baby girls!!!! So like a crazy person, I didn't sleep for two days straight, just thinking about what we could do. And I finally came up with an idea. Before I said anything to my husband, I sat down with Andrea and Kelly and told them I came up with an idea. They were so excited. I asked them "baby girls would you like to cook thanksgiving dinner and bring it to Staten Island?" Andrea said "And we can serve them and help them out, the people who got hurt by Sandy?" I said with tears in my eyes "yes baby girl!" I called Pj (my husband) and told him what I had come up with and he said "lets do it, Im ready" Who knew doing the relief fund two years ago would put such an impact on her life. They were so excited. So I had to live up to their expections.I got their schools involved and friends family and neighbors, even friends from out of state!! I was able to send over an 18 wheeler tractor trailer filled to the max in two weeks!!!! I was able to get in contact with an awesome guy named Jean in Staten Island who lost everything himself, but chose to take care of his community by setting up a relief center. He had it open 24/7. he was there sleeping in a tent taking care of everyone else but himself. Two days before we left for our first trip out to Staten Island I started cooking, and cooking, and cooking. I cooked 400 lbs of food by myself with just my girls and a very good friend, Carol who doesn't cook but she stayed by my side doing whatever she could do. We went out to Staten Island with 500 lbs of food the day before Thanksgiving and served the community from 11 am till 10 pm. We cried our eyes out when we got there, and we cried our eyes when we left. The devastation is unbelievable. And I knew I just couldn't stop there. When I set my mind to something I go all the way!!! So I told my girls and PJ and Jean that I would be back, I'm not going to forget about them. There were people there that touched my heart like you couldn't even imagine. We have gone out every weekend helping and volunteering. Last week we meet two families that have broke our hearts, and we knew we had to dedicate a lot of our time to them. One family has 4 children, a husband and wife. Fran is such an amazing person, she touched our hearts tremendously. We have been cooking for her family for the last two weeks. I make sure I cook enough to last them a whole week. Until we come back. Fran had told Carol and I that she doesnt even have any money to get her daughter (who is 13) a Xmas tree. We took her to the relief center that we were volunteering at and she got so much stuff. This past weekend we went to Staten Island on a Mission bigger than just cooking. I cooked tons of food for her family brought her tons of donations. Pj said "No child should be without a christmas tree" He bought her a Christmas tree, lights and decoratio[...]

Happy Monday!!! :)

Wondering what to get your loved one for Christmas. Something that will last and make a difference. Give them the opp to start their own biz with Visalus. Nothing like Freedom to make their own choices or to live their own life without punching a time clock.

What do you want for Christmas?  (image)

Good morning, Rise and Shine and all the happy Stuff :)
I am ready to start 2013 out with a bang.. I had to find something that I enjoyed doing while exercising and I think I finally found it.. I like the GO GO GO, sweat until your body hurts kind of exercise...
A friend opened a Spinning Center recently... Lifecycle Studios and I said, "Why not?" It's something you haven't done yet and how bad can it really be. It's not moving your back and stretching and exercising.... So I went.... Let's say I had my patooty kicked... I kept it at my own pace, did what I could do and left it at that. Being the first time, I didnt want to over do it.

Started out slow with a great mellow atmosphere and before I knew it, I felt like I was climbing Mt Everest.  Cycling to the top of the peak and then hurry hurry hurry back down the peak so that I could make it to the next peak. If this were a real race, I'm sure I would have been last of the pack but the main thing is I made it through the hour. How am I feeling today? Sore, but for the first time in a long time.. I feel that  I am coming back stronger then ever. I'm sure I will have my off days where I have to go visit my other favorite place in town, Tone U, where toning is the answer.. But for now, as long as I get out there build my endurance and mobility back then I'm on the right track.

The key to this little entry is Never give up!!! Some where out there is something that will test you, Something that will push you back down like someone or something has a thumb on your head saying, "NO I have control over your life and body". That is when you reach out and say, "Like H3!! you do I am in charge of my own future and there is Nothing going to stop me now"

You can do this, You can be in control of your own destiny.. JUST DO IT!!

Happy Birthday Walter Disney!!

Some people say he was not such a nice person, but in my book.... if you can bring Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the Disney characters to life then your not such a bad guy.... He wasn't afraid to go after his Dreams and neither should you. GO FOR IT!! (image)

Have you ever

Have you ever had someone tell you that you couldnt do something? Dont know about you but it makes me want to do it even more.... I have learned to live life the way I think it should be not because its the way I want my family or friends to accept me... Either love it or lump it....  My thoughts for today :) (image)

Being Strong is the answer

We seem to make all kinds of excuses why we cant do something, why it wont work,  why this and why that.... But when it really comes down to it, YES YOU CAN!!! The mind is an evil thing sometimes, telling us what we cant do, when we know we can do it.

I thought this was the perfect picture for Wordless Wednesday.... Now get in the right frame of mind and know that you can do whatever you set your mind to. Strong is the Answer to your prayers.(image)

Succeeding with Visalus

So your thinking about coming on board with Visalus... The only thing I can say is DO IT!!!!! Do it for you, do it for your family but most of all do it because YOU WANT TO!!!
The big question is, should you become a promoter or a customer..

Coming on as a customer is always a great thing, try the product see how well you do with it and then move forward to promoter. I can almost guarantee that you know someone that suffers from some kind of ailment... main thing is getting the proper nutrients and vitamins into your body so that Visalus can do its thing.. Which is adding something that you don't get into your every day life, like vitamins and nutrition.  You don't even want me to get into the store bought food with GMO's and sugar intake and I can go on and on, but wont.

What I can do is tell you some of my teams success stories.. Lower A1c's, less pain, weight loss, nail and hair growth, more energy, muscle building. That is just the health success's, now we can go on to the financial aspect. It has turned my life and so many others lives around, with the payments. Your probably thinking ok, its just like everything else... and I can tell you NO ITS NOT! I would love to talk to you and really show you how to work the biz so that your successful.

Just go HERE and fill out the info and I will contact you asap.... Want to order one bag at a time without autoship, then let me know ...... Just do it... because your health is depending on you!!!

Nothing worse then having the Dr. tell you  Either you do something now or you don't have very much longer to live. Become Proactive Not Reactive!!! Contact me here.....

Paying it forward

Are you the type that Pays it Forward? It doesnt matter how you do it, just do it.. It will make you feel so much better and the look on the other persons face is well worth it..... What have you done lately? Yesterday I had the pleasure of Walking for the Poor and helping to raise over 2000.00 with Tone U Toning Center. It was lots of fun and knowing that we were able to help others made it all worth it..... (image)

My dilemma

So I started out this page many moons ago, liked the title of the blog and now Im not to sure... Anyone know how to change the name without losing the links and all my visitors? Me neither... If you do, please tell me.. Playing catch up here..... Aquaponics is going better than I ever thought. We have alot of fish in the tank now and plants are doing awesome... We were told that Tilapia multiply fast.. Eeks, Fish Farmers without planning.... But its all in fun and the fish are happy in their new surroundings. Becoming more aware of what I eat and portion control and mainly where my food has been before I eat it.. That was the main purpose of starting the aquaponics... I think more people need to be more aware of the things they put into their families stomachs and the things that they bring into the house to clean.. Vinegar is a great house cleaner, may stink for a minute or two but its better then bringing toxins into the household. GO NON GMO!!! If you want to know more about gardening and our aquaworld then head on over to Spring Hill Green Thumb Club on FB. Had the pleasure of helping the Area Club out with a Yard sale and came across a real beauty... I don't know old it is but hubby says probably in the 70's. Its a sewing machine table.. Sturdy wood and I picked it up for 4.50.. pretty good deal, I think. Now do I want to sand and repaint Country Blue or leave it the way it is ... What would you do? (image)

Healthy eating and aquaponics

When I first joined Visalus, I wasn't thinking about anything else except trying to get out of the JOB rat race and getting myself healthy. As time grew and I realized what I had gotten myself into the more I decided that for my families sake, I had to be proactive not reactive. I had to start paying attention to what I was putting on my food table, what chemicals I was bringing into the house and on my property. Did you know a well known weed killer can cause Nerve Damage, Cancer and many other diseases?? Have you ever thought about what your fruits and vegetables have gone through before they reach your table. How about Mice crawling over them and unsanitary conditions. Personally, I want to know where my produce has been before it hits my stomach. So hubby came up with a brilliant idea, he started looking into aquaponics. He knows how much I love to garden and he knew that we had to start growing our own food, after all who wants to pay high prices for something that I can grow in a bucket or planter. Combine gardening with my favorite place to be at Disney is Living off the Land at Epcot Center and we had a hit. So he started thinking of ideas how to make this work.. In the meantime, I'm looking at him like hes crazy. Well needless to say, he pulled it off. Shhh, I won't tell him what a genius he is... but I think HE ROCKS!! So if your trying to get healthy and want to save money, I strongly suggest in looking into aquaponics, just some fish, some plants and some ideas is all it took.... Oh by the way, use vinegar to clean your house and kill your weeds works much better.. (image)

Never give up

I thought I had it made, thought I was doing awesome and the weight was coming off. I started slacking off a little because of an accident and needless to say, I am starting my new 90 day Challenge today.. By New Years pictures, I am going to be ONE HOT MAMA.... So that's enough of me feeling down and out.. Walking Three times a week, a mile each time to get the body used to moving again. Bodily injuries is not an easy thing to go through, but I am learning to push through the pain. It's the only thing you can do, not to give up on yourself. Went Belly dancing last night to strengthen core muscles. Thought this was going to be hard but it wasnt as bad as I thought. Little steps, little wiggles will turn into big wiggles. Eating more salads and less foods that are bad for you. The Vi shakes are a wonderful way to get the proper nutrients and vitamins into your body and curbs the hunger. Portion control and paying attention to what your eating goes hand in hand with that. Grab a friend that cares and help them be accountable and for them to do the same with you. Food is a drug, sugars are a drug and we have to break the cycle... Together we can accomplish miracles... (image)

Show me your guns

Ladies and Gents, We need to take our Strength Stamina and durability back... How are your muscles? Are they getting the daily workout that they need? I asked for team members to take pics and then send them in.... This is what I received.... These ladies rock and if you want to see more pics... Come Join Shake it to Lose it So how are you going to tone your body? Would love to hear from you.. (image)
