Aiming Our Arrows

Updated: 2015-04-08T08:35:22.294-05:00

Our blog is going to be "out of order." It's time consuming for me and something (or someone) always seems to get neglected because of it. While it's fun to do and share with everyone what's going on around here I feel the Lord is showing me I must back away. The computer can be addicting for me, so I'm trying to limit my use as much as I can. I'm also trying to be an example for my children. It's hard to tell them they are spending too much time with the electronic things in our home if I'm saying it while peeking up over the laptop screen. :)

Perhaps I'll post occasionally, but I'm going to be trying hard to keep my priorities straight so that my family and home doesn't become "out of order."

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness."

Proverbs 31:10, 27

Naomi loves to spend time with Cassidy, especially when she takes her to see the horses. They started the afternoon by giving Naomi a ride on Missy. Missy is such a gentle horse. She's pretty old too, so she doesn't have much "get up and go." Naomi doesn't have much balance yet. When the horse is actually walking, I'm standing beside her holding her leg. Later on, Cassidy got on Trissy. Trissy is young and has a lot of "get up and go!"That's why Cass has her helmet on and Naomi is no longer in the round pen.Do you remember the children's books that have something the same on every page and the child has to find it; like a duck or a ladybug? Well, these pictures of Cassidy on Trissy remind me of that. Can you spot the dog in every picture? There she is.And there she is again. Can you spot her? She has such an obession with this horse.Trissy is the horse with the most energy. She can keep Sky very busy. Sky just won't leave her alone. It's amazing she hasn't gotten trampled, because although she's outside the pen now, most times she is right under Trissy's feet.In the evening Cassidy and Naomi went to brush the smaller horses, Peyton and Cowboy. Naomi's holding Cowboy while Cassidy cleans out his feet."Aww, cute horsie." "Let me give you another kiss." Cassidy let Naomi lead him around. Naomi thought this was great."Come on, horsie, follow me." "Isn't this fun?" "Whoa, slow down!" They had a nice time together. It's good they did this yesterday because as I'm writing this today it's snowing. Yes, that's right....snowing. "In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever."Psalm 44:8[...]

Dirt Road

If you continue down the road we live on you'll pass one house and then it will turn into this. A dirt road!

Our house sits on a gravel road. Back East they might call our road a dirt road, but they would be wrong because THIS is a dirt road.

Notice at the top of the picture there is a street sign for the dirt road. :)

I took this picture last week. Before we had any snow. In fact we hadn't had any rain in awhile so we thought this part of the road might be passable.

The kids and I took the 4-wheeler and the golf cart hoping to drive around and maybe see some game.

When we got to this point we sent Ezra up ahead to see if he thought the golf cart could make it across.

(image) He came back with a verdict of "I don't think so, Mom."

So we turned around, went the other way past our house and looked at the cows. :)

It's Gonna What?!

That's what I said at the beginning of the week when I heard it might snow. I was really hoping it would pass over us but it didn't. Thankfully, we probably won't get more than an inch and a half. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 50. Can you say mud?

I'll admit I'm not crazy about getting snow at the end of March, but it could be worse.

And just the way God gave us warm days in January He can give us days of snow at the end of March.

It's His creation. I'll let Him decide what's best. And I'll do my part and count it all joy.

"The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein."

Psalm 24:1

"My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience."

James 1:2-3

For Fun

Below are some pictures that I took and then, using photoshop, I added the verses.

I took this picture one morning from the front porch. I love how the sunlight is just beginning to peek over the horizon. It brought to memory this verse. I mess up every day so this verse encourages me that each day is a new day full of God's mercy and faithfulness.

(image) I was lucky to get this picture of the butterfly in our yard last spring. Butterflies always remind me of this verse because the caterpillar becomes a new creature when it emerges from the cacoon; just like we become a new creature after salvation.

(image) This picture shows the sun setting behind the house. I made this picture for Ezra. He likes this verse and wanted a reminder of it to hang in his room.

Here's what Naomi looks like after she's gotten into mommy's makeup. This is her attempt at putting on eyeliner.

Don't rush things, Omi. That time will come soon enough.

Youth Night At Our House

Friday night we had our teen class from church over to our house for some fun and fellowship. The girls and I started out by making some cupcake pops that I found on a website called Bakerella. First they shaped a mixture of cake and icing into a ball.It was pretty gooey. And made their hands quite messy. After they shaped them into cupcake form (easier said than done), they dipped the bottom half in chocolate and poked in a lollipop stick. (Note to self: do this before the chocolate hardens)After those set, the next step was to dip the top half in pink chocolate to look like icing. Add some sprinkles and a m&m....and voila!! Cupcake pops. From left to right: Naomi, Stephanie, Bethany, and CassidyMeanwhile the boys (Levi, Ezra & Owen) were outside doing boy stuff. Things that had to do with bb guns and climbing trees.Around supper time Bethany's friend Chelsea came. I made pizza and salad and of course had plenty of pop. Stephanie brought some brownies too. Yummy. As the sun went down, Matt prepared our campfire. We roasted marshmallows and made smores. These pictures were taken without a flash. These were taken with the flash.Daisy was chasing the sparks from the fire. She was also ready to eat any marshmallows that fell on the ground. It didn't matter to her if they just came out of the fire. She'd gobble them right up.Matt decided to keep her with him before she really hurt herself. When we went back inside Matt gave a Bible challenge. He started out by having each of them squeeze out all the toothpaste from a small tube onto a paper plate. He told them to get every little bit out.And they squeezed and squeezed until they finally got all the toothpaste out. After they achieved that, Matt read from the book of James about the tongue. He reminded them how powerful our tongues can be even though it's a very small part of our body. He encouraged them to be careful with the words we speak. After sharing these and other things about the tongue, he told them he would give $20 to anyone that could put all the toothpaste back into their tube. They tried and tried. Some were very determined to get the toothpaste back in.But, as you can figure, it's impossible.Matt told them the tube was like our mouths and the toothpaste our words. Once our words come out you can't put them back into your mouth. It was a good challenge for all of us. One I hope we remember. We finished the night up with some crazy games - Signal, Spoons and the Pen Game.I didn't get any pictures of the games....I was too involved. :) "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be."James 3:5-10[...]

Jumping Bean

It was a great day to jump on the trampoline or trampateen as Naomi likes to say. I was enjoying watching her jump and taking lots of pictures. It's a shame the net has to be there and mess up all the pictures. But that didn't keep me from taking picture after picture, after picture. Then I had a breakthrough! Get under the net to take the pictures. Duh!!!Much better. So I started again to take picture after picture, after picture,(you guessed it) after picture,(I can't stop myself!), after picture,( finger has a cramp.)after picture, until finally I stopped and took one more. Look at that face. Can you blame me for taking so many pictures? I didn't think so.[...]

Chick Days at the Farm Store

It's that time of year. When you walk into the farm store and the sound of chirping chicks greets your ears.

It's a fun time for the kids to see the baby chickens. Naomi especially loved it.

Naomi's hand is blurry in this picture because she was quickly raising it out of the tub. She wanted to pet them, but as soon as they would move she'd quickly jerk her hand away.

She began to get braver and braver as time went on.

Aren't they so cute?

(image) I hope some day we have chickens again. I miss the fresh eggs. But that requires building a chicken house and fencing them in because of the dogs. Maybe when the boys get bigger they can build one for me.

"Thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee."
Deuteronomy 26:11

Groundhog Day

The other day Sky was barking. Nothing unusual...she always barks. But this time she wouldn't stop. So finally I went to take a look and find out what she was barking at. There was something under the air conditioner. I told Cassidy to put both dogs in the basement so we could find out what it was. It turned out to be a groundhog. Cassidy got a stick and tried to poke it out. But it would have none of that. The thing kept growling at her.She kept poking but he wasn't budging. She decided maybe a shovel would do better. And sure enough he popped his head out.He took off but didn't go toward the trees.Instead, he decided to go under the four wheeler. We knew we couldn't let the dogs out until he was safe in the trees so now we needed to coax him out from under the four wheeler. By the way, the whole time Naomi thinks this is wonderful.Cassidy tries throwing rocks at him and finally he makes a mad dash for the trees.Bye bye Mr. Groundhog. I'm glad you'll live to see another day. When we let the dogs out they ran back to the air conditioner to look for him."He's gotta be here somewhere!!""Move over, let me look." "Nope, I don't see him.""We took care of him!!! He won't be back!"[...]

Cowgirl Omi

One of the ladies at our church got the girls in the nursery matching dresses. Naomi was so excited to have the same dress as her friends. The second picture would have been so much better if Naomi's hand wasn't blocking Moriah's face but the batteries in my camera died so I wasn't able to get another picture.

Another Warm Day

A little over a week ago we had another nice, warm day. The boys took me to see their clubhouse that they're building. They did all this by themselves.Even though it was warmer the creek was still frozen over, which made for some fun.The creek is only ankle deep so there was nothing to worry about. The dog was having a blast playing with this log that was sticking out of the ground. The boys also showed me the tombstones that they found one day while exploring. They aren't on our property; just a little bit off the property line. The one above was Jr. McKillen, age 8yrs and 8mos. Died 1856. This one reads Charles McKillen, age 25yrs. Died 1859.Someday we hope to find some more information on who these people were and why they lived such short lives. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"Hebrews 9:27"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. "Psalm 23:4[...]

Snow Cream

Yesterday it snowed, so today Cassidy and Naomi made snow cream.

They took snow, some milk, sugar and chocolate syrup and mixed it all up.

(image) It tasted pretty good. They had to eat it fast because it was melting.

But the best thing was that they had some special "sister time" together.

"Sisters share a special friendship that lasts a lifetime." ~ Anonymous

Loving the Warmth

I'm thankful for the days the Lord gives us in the middle of winter when it's warmer than normal. Yesterday it was 57 and the sun was shining.

So we took advantage of the warmth and went outside in the afternoon. It was great to feel the sun on our faces.

(image) We enjoyed spending time with the animals.

(image) Cassidy and I were able to take Trissy and Peyton for a nice walk. We didn't ride them, just led them around.

Today, we're inside. It's only 29 and feels like 16. Brrrrr!

(image) Oh well, spring is only a couple months away.

"He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen."
Deuteronomy 10:21

My Little Helper

I love the age when children think chores are fun. When I tell Naomi it's time to do the laundry, she's excited!! Wish I could say the same for myself and the other kids. What makes us change our attitude toward chores? Is it because we know there are funner things we could be doing? Or is it because we've done the same thing over thousands of times and it becomes boring?Whatever the reason, I know that we can be thankful. Maybe we won't get excited, but instead of complaining about the chores we can find ways to be thankful. Take the laundry for instance. I'm thankful God's given us plenty of clothes that get dirty and need cleaned. I'm thankful for a washing machine so I don't have to do it by hand. Also I'm thankful for the dryer so my clothes can get dry quickly. I'm thankful that I have a lot of laundry because it means I have a lot of people in my family. So, while I may not get excited about doing the laundry like Naomi does, she does remind me to be thankful."And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men"Colossians 3:23 "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name."Psalm 100:4[...]

Not One But Two!

Today Matt, Cass and I drove 3 hours to Iowa to look at a horse that Cass found for sale on the internet. The horse has a good, calm dispostion and was a good price. Cass has been saving all her money to buy another horse and she's been praying God would show her which one would be good for her. This horse has been worked with somewhat and allowed Cass to get on her back while we were there. She's very gentle and we think she'll make a good horse for the family. While we were there we saw her foal that she had last April. Well, we couldn't leave without taking him with us too. We almost came home with another horse that was there for sale but, thankfully, we restrained ourselves. On the way home we stopped at Arby's for lunch. The 3 of us like Arby's but the boys don't so this was a perfect time for us to go there to eat. This is Trissy. She's 6 years old and just the sweetest thing. OK, maybe this is the sweetest thing. We're not sure yet what we're going to name him but we're leaning toward Peyton. Naomi thinks they are absolutely wonderful! Our other horses didn't think so, but they eventually allowed Trissy and Peyton into the herd. Matt and I were thankful to be able to spend the day with Cassidy. We praise the Lord for giving us such a special girl."Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."Psalm 127:3[...]

I couldn't think of anything to post, so I thought I'd post some pictures of daisy to show how she's growing.

Big difference from 5 months ago.

Happy New Year!!

Welcome back to our blog. Sorry we were away for so long.We had a wonderful vacation back east over Christmas seeing family and friends. We feel very blessed to have such a great family and group of friends. We praise the Lord for giving us a wonderful 2008. He blessed us with good health, prosperous business, a new home and a lot of life lessons to help us grow. We look forward to serving Him in 2009 and seeing what He will do. Maybe He’ll come back this year…are you ready? For New Year’s Day Naomi and I made special cupcakes. Our present to the boys for Christmas was a Wii. It’s fun to play together as a family, so that’s what we did today. It’s not only fun to play, but it’s hilarious to watch them play. In all these pictures they are playing tennis. In these videos they are boxing. Is There Anything Cuter?

Is there anything cuter than a 2 year old and kittens?? Naomi absolutely loves kittens! Just look at that face. It says it all! Notice the look on this kitten's face. Her face says it all too, "when is this going to be over?" It's almost over kitty. Hang in there!Last one. Now you can go. :) [...]

More Puppy Pictures

Naomi loves to carry Daisy around.

However, I don't think Daisy likes it a whole lot.

Meet Daisy

This is Daisy, Levi's new puppy. We just got her Tuesday night. She's so sweet and everyone loves her except Sky and Tabby. :)
I'll post more pictures of her soon.

Naomi's Turn

On Thursday, Naomi got a chance to try her new life jacket in the pond.

She enjoyed sitting on the edge and kicking her feet.

The Neighborhood Gang

We live in a rough neighborhood. Just look at this gang of hoodlums! We always make sure to lock our doors at night!!

Ohhh, wait a minute. That's just our kids and their neighborhood friends. Phew!!
